Re: Oil pan drain bolt stripped, can I drain oil....

Even if that's the case, as long as it's not circulating, does it really matter? Anything that actually does get picked up should be taken care of by the oil filter before it hits anything else.

Nope, the intake only superficially resembled the S62. Everything is very different from any other BMW V8 produced.

Re: TPS or Accelerator Pedal Module?

It’s almost never the pedal (which technically contains two pedal position sensors rather than a 3rd “throttle” position sensor). More likely to be the one under the airbox.

It could also be one of the STT128E chip (there's one on top of the board and one on the other side). They can handle upto 4 cylinders each. I don't remember which one goes to which cylinders.

More powerful, likely more reliable, plug and play electrically, and has a built in proper shroud which should allow the fan to do a better job of drawing air from the entire surface of the radiator.

E46 M3s don’t have a cruise control module. It’s all built into the DME.

Most likely you either have the wrong clutch switch or it isn’t wired properly.

Re: unplugged DME, now car wont start

Not really. I think mixed up connectors or bent / broken pin(s) is most likely. I guess a broken pin is arguably bricked.

Re: New battery time.

You lose minimal weight for a siginificant reduction in capacity - not really worth it. Z4M battery (which is just a run of the mill H6 AGM battery) saves a little weight without much loss in...

Re: problem with dme shut down after s54 swap...need help!!!!

Unknown. Late model E46 AWD 5.7 might be worth looking at since it's more likely to be plug and play. I say late model only because I know of a 2004 330xi S54 swap that has no known issues, while the...

Re: unplugged DME, now car wont start

The DME wouldn't power if those two were switched.

Make sure you didn't mix up any of the SMG and DME connectors.

Re: Sold the Jet Black, picked up an E90 M3

Sure, but there's a balance to be had between 3.15 and 4.1 - which is exactly what BMW found with the E46. Though I admit I wish I had a 7th gear sometimes.

Re: Sold the Jet Black, picked up an E90 M3

5-speed hurt the US E36 there. Euro E36 with its 6-speed and higher redline should have gotten a shorter ratio

Re: Sold the Jet Black, picked up an E90 M3

They've gotten it pretty off before. Euro E36 M3 is pretty bad for example (same gear ratios as E46, but 3.15 diff). Would result in pretty similar redline speeds to the E92 M3.

Shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve used WinKFP on many blank DMEs without issue.

Re: Temperature Gauge Coding

Not only is the buffer 10 degrees, but the S54 has a tendency to rest a little bit before the buffer zone starts (buffer is from 85 - 95 C, M3 likes to hang out around 83C IME). So that needle will...

Re: CSL Oil level indicator

Those two items together should do the trick. Might be worth giving it a little time, I remember the first time took an absurd amount of time. Otherwise perhaps worth checking your oil level sensor.

It's not exactly a slur or attack. You proudly reject modern technology and admonish people who have an education. Just calling it as it is - people with your mindset generally prefer that, no?

Re: Anyone on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires yet?

Did you even look at that chart? It clearly shows there’s plenty of overlap in grip levels between different tread ratings. It’s perfectly possible for an individual 300 wear tire to grip better than...

Re: Anyone on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires yet?

The correlation between treadwear rating and grip isn't a hard and fast rule. The PSS are nearly 10 years newer than the PS2s - Michelin's engineers didn't just sit on their asses that whole time....

The learned parameters on the DME are stored in non-volatile memory - battery disconnect won't impact it.

I have had some limited success disabling the ICV with the stock ECU. Works for the most part, but have some stalling issue. Might be good enough to make the adjustment work better though?

LCM still has to support it. LCMIV seems to have a BFD function, though it doesn't seem particularly configurable.
