The 3.46 used to feel so short with the S52, and I would top out at 135ish because I would run out of RPMs. Now with the S54, 2nd gear goes to 70, 3rd gear...

The S54 doesn't suffer from the same oil pump nut problem as the S52. My first S52 was welded, then safety wired after I rebuilt it, but when I built my S54 I didn't feel the need to do either.

Apparently the stock E36 M3 fuel pump will work according to some people, but installing the 5 bar E46 M3 fuel pump in the E36 housing is the proper way to do the swap IMO.

$3k into an S52 won't come close to keeping up with even a stock S54 (given equal cars and weight). Just not happening.

Unlike the E36, where the engine wiring harness is all one large piece, the E46 wiring harness is modular and there are 3 separate pieces. On the bottom of this picture you'll see the Z3M main engine...

Got to play around with some wiring this afternoon. I'm having a hard time identifying some of the connectors and don't have a bentley for the E46 so hopefully some of the S54 genius' here can help...

Pump is definitely removable; a few of the S54 swap guys have used E46 pumps in E36 pump enclosures.
