The oil that was in there was Castrol Edge 10w60. That's what PO used. I did replace it with LM on my first oil change, but only used it for a 1069 miles before bearings replacement. I also sent this...

Yes, I'm very impressed. He returned some of the parts I asked him to, and he cleaned them up and packed back into original boxes. Not a lot of shops do that.

Well, that was dumb. Why didn't you just tow it?
Towing it to a place where you could fix it couldn't have possibly be more expensive that replacing a strut, shock mount, tire, etc.

Indeed!
I also had them take a sample of the oil, so will see what the readings just before the replacement were. 1069 miles on the oil.

I think its simple - changed the bearings? Do an oil sample if not every time, every other time. Start seeing lead/copper - change again.

I would still go off oil analysis, though. One of my previous M3s never had bearings done (an '03 no less) and at 153K miles I had copper -1 lead -2 on my last sample. This one is much worse at 110K,...

I think about 100-120K is a good interval to change them, unless you track the car a lot. That's where oil analysis...

Likely threw a rod. Coolant mixed with oil (possibly from previous damage) and you spun a bearing at close to redline. If so, yes, this motor is toast.

Yes, $$ is not that much of an issue, its almost a wash at this point. He is ARP dealer (he does a lot of S65/S85 bearings), and said he has a set of S54 bolts for $140. I have ordered a set of OEM...

Changes with the temp change. I thought this was the point of AUTO mode? My car is a 99', but I'm not sure what version of the aircon is in there.
