Re: Order of operations for DE car upgrades

Didn't see this - yes, a degree of camber is a *lot*, and from personal experience is the difference between cording the outside of tires repeatedly and getting even wear.

That's fair - I would at least get the new seal. That way you know there aren't leaks after you put everything back together, and you can fet CV grease locally

Re: Dyno results , vanos issue?

Looks pretty much the same as my car - stock with headers.

Re: Oil pan drain bolt stripped, can I drain oil....

As long as you get the oil warm and extract it relatively quickly after the engine is shut down, it's going to be a pretty homogeneous mixture.. sounds like you're blowing up the level of...

Re: 288/280 or 280/272

Agreed. CSF does a great job, helps with overall engine temp, and doesn't require AN lines

Re: Anyone running an electric fan shroud on permanently?

Ah, gotcha - in the mean-time you can trigger off switched power and not hurt anything, it's just inefficient

Call the people who made it. Probably controller failure

Re: 288/280 or 280/272

I get a 4XX error on that dropbox link.

What's the car's purpose? Track stuff/ DD? I'd look into cooling if you haven't already

Re: Timing tool locking pin doesn't fit!

You have the correct tool, you're just using it wrong.

No, the cams are going to be in whatever position Vanos left off at. You need to use a wrench and put them back in time as specified in the...

Re: Timing tool locking pin doesn't fit!

OMG don't force it.. yikes.

That tool's purpose is *not* to "lock" the camshafts. It's there to time the camshafts.

If you have to lift one side (as you did right before the pin engaged) the...

Re: Oil pan drain bolt stripped, can I drain oil....

If you're just trying to change the oil before addressing the problem, get a fluid extractor. Going for the panel with 6 bolts also requires you to remove the reinforcement plate, and is way messier...

Re: Z4 M Roadster - buying one with vanos issues

Dealerships will not rebuild/ bulletproof the Vanos. If something is wrong, they replace the whole unit. It's definitely not a bad thing

I would say it's a plus that you've got a Vanos that's much...

Re: Electric Fan mounting

The other option is to get a sheet of aluminum from Amazon, and make your own bracket (the route I took)

Even then, it's still close to the belts, etc. ...but I haven't had issues

I don't see your answer to "what are you trying to fix"?

If the car handles amazing, why are you trying to lower it? My point was that lowering can ruin your suspension geometry if you're not...

Re: What pulls timing on the S54?

I'd be curious what the car does if you use higher octane fuel. If the car suddenly starts hitting targets, it probably means you *are* riding the knock sensor..

Re: Short rear spring question

Yes to too much rake - 13.5" up front is pretty standard, I know some run 13/13 (no rake)

I wouldn't take the car lower than 13" without some geometry modification. If you go lower, you'll start...

Re: Why Are Both Aux Fan Lines HOT With Car OFF, but Fan Isn't Running?

That was based on Spal's instructions, if I remember correctly. Electrically it doesn't matter, but having the fuse as close to the terminal/ 12v input is definitely good practice to reduce shorts...
