Stock flywheel or single mass? My single mass flywheel chatters quite noticeably when I'm in neutral and the pedal doesn't have any pressure on it. This is normal though.

I can't imagine down shifting from 4th, all the way past 3rd, through the stiff spring, into the gate, and actually into reverse gear. At that point, you deserve whatever happens lol.

Could be the resistor, but if the motor is definitely working and you're just not getting air, that sounds more like a clog.
