There is an aluminum reinforcement plate that goes under the engine that is bolted in with 12 M12 bolts.

The plastic shield that goes between the bumper and screws into the aluminum reinforcement...

Those LCAís are designed to bend in an impact to protect the rear floor. But they do wear and might not be as straight when new.

Iíve learned this lesson. Knocking = rebuild. You can probably fix the crank but itís gonna run about $1000. Grind, straighten, heat treat...

If it knocks...youíve likely ovaled the rod end which means it will knock with fresh bearings.

IMO, you best option is to swap in a good used motor with fresh bearings and VANOS job.

Use red loctite for the caliper bracket bolts despite BMW not specifying it.

I get what M3AZ is saying. When you mount the belts/harness to the seat then it adds load to the seat hardware. I can agree in a caged car that the harness should be chassis or roll cage mounted.

rocker arm shaft

There is an Allen screw in the back (cyl 6) which holds the rocker shaft In place. Not sure if you have to take of the cam position sensor but at that point it takes 2 minutes. Just remove it.

Not the side mounts but the floor mounts. Everyone uses oval holes for universal fit. If you use steel side mounts then Iíd imagine the failure point will move to where the floor mount is bolted to...

Doesnít take that long if all you do is drop the rear subframe, repair the cracks, weld plates and reinstall the rear end. Assuming your cracks are the common ones around the mounts.

You have to watch the gauge because itís easy to go beyond the spec. A click just feels better to me in those situations.

I also have a 1/2Ē. The other issue is itís so long itís a PIA sometimes....

Iíd check the idle air valve to make sure it moves freely. It can get filled with grime and stick closed.

Could have a rough idle if someone overtightened the nuts on the motor it trans mounts....

The problem is the parts are old. Most people have the original parts in their car so after 14+ years...replacing with new OE parts will be a big improvement.

You should have to push the CV in to get the axle to fit. If youíre using bolts to draw it in...itís not the right part.

Length will vary depending on the position of the CV joints.

Check your rear alignment. If the toe is out of whack, the rear end will do weird things.
