Re: Mk20 “ice mode” on track

Funny enough I nearly did this, after finding only 16/25 bolts holding up the oil pan, all four front caliper guide pins were also about to fly out as well. Did I mention I love BMW's?

Aye, still sounds like a headache, especially wiring to the rear. I think you have to add some hydraulic lines coming off the master cylinder because I remember the setup being a bit different.

I don't think it was ice mode, just bad braking system. It really needs a bbk. I'm on Pirellis now, which is making it even worse. I might actually be getting ice mode now.

Yeah, that's gonna be a no for you then. Any packed snow and they are useless. Might as well just rock summer tires since they'll have the same amount of snow grip.

If you jack up only one side and undo the bolt on the link to the bar, you might find it's hard to remove the bolt until you get the sway bar back to level, due to the tension of the sway bar.

Re: Wine Drinkers unite?

Grabbed the last two bottles (2014) at my local super store for $19.99. Looking forward to trying them out. :thumbsup2:

Re: BBK Worth it?

Yeah I use Coleman to get replacement blank rings.

Lately I've been running pads down to the backing plate. They get low to the end of the weekend, and I get lazy about replacing them.

Re: Money saved doing your own work, but to what extent?

My hobby is driving road courses, albeit rather slowly. The race and service shop is an unfortunate second job that I've been relegated to. :shifty:

Re: Money saved doing your own work, but to what extent?

I don't trust the shops in my area to do anything besides one guy at a TD Performance that does my alignment and Costco that mounts my tires. Everything else is done by me. Maybe it's time to open up...

My PFC DD V1 rings are less than $400 an axle. I burn through pads at an alarming rate though.

I haven't ridden in silvergray545's car on track yet, but if I do, that might throw away my nonexistent $6k quicker. I have ridden in a car with a brembo upgrade (not sure which one), but I think the...

Re: Digging into the Diff Rebuild

I don't think it's a weight thing. The new Cayman's crush me on corner exit. I just can't get on it as early as I think I should given the car's setup. Specifically coming out of Keyhole at Mid Ohio,...

It doesn't hook up out of corners for me. I can't get on the gas as early as some of the Porsches, or the rear end just starts going. Not sure if that's because of the design or the diff isn't...

Re: The Official E46 M3 Oil Analysis Results Thread

Nice catch. Next report will show a bit of silicone, but that should be from any gasket sealer you use for the oil pan. What oil was that, LM? Viscosity looks a bit low.

Yeah that's an issue if it's the case. I haven't replaced the control arms yet. Last I checked there wasn't play in the ball joints.

Re: RTAB Monoball Thread

A ball joint isn't rocket science. They all wear out eventually. If they have play in them when installed, you could have called BW and I'm sure their customer service would have taken care of it.

Track car monoballer here, BW's have held up just fine over 15 track days/2000 track miles so far this year with Nittos and Pirellis.

You are missing the best part of a Dinan E46 M3, which is the badge, to let other BMW enthusiast know that this is a really expensive E46 M3.

Yeah they won't last the 50-60 heat sessions I'm getting out of Nittos. That's the trade off.
