Re: 99’ 40K Mile M3 Vert - maintenance?

Depends on the parts you get, but if you do the work yourself, I'd say under $400 for everything I mentioned.

Re: 99’ 40K Mile M3 Vert - maintenance?

If this hasn't been done yet, I'd start with cooling system overhaul. Pump, TS, housing, hoses, belts, tensioners, fan clutch. Easy to do and not very expensive. Then plugs, all filters, all fluids.

Re: e46 M3 GPS: BMW or Burkhart?

Burkhart motors and GPS are BMW parts, no? The motor that I bought for my M6 was absolutely identical to BMW part and even came in the same box. E46 might be different, though.

Re: I think it's the SMG pump...hopefully not.

You are getting power to the motor. If the motor runs and you are STILL can't shift, could be pump, pressure accumulator, etc. But likely both are fine and its the motor.

At your mileage, it is...

Re: I think it's the SMG pump...hopefully not.

Replacing the motor is not hard or time consuming, but you need a good set of jack stands or a lift to do this. And some sort of software to bleed/re-adapt.

Re: I think it's the SMG pump...hopefully not.

Almost guaranteed pump motor then. ECS and Burkhart carry then for reasonable price ~$600. Install is pretty straightforward, but requires system bleed/adaptations run.

Re: I think it's the SMG pump...hopefully not.

2 things that come to mind you need to check - SMG pump motor, and slave/gear position sensor (they are one unit). After the car has been sitting and you open the door - how long does the motor run...

Bray, I'm not being defensive, I'm just showing how easy it is not to get the whole picture by saying somebody has been only a member since 2015 or posted only in FS section. It was "tongue in cheek"...

Agree, and I did use an airbrush to apply the paint - it was one of my complaints - the paint was too thick for an airbrush, even though I specifically indicated I'm going to spray it before I...

It's put on a podium by the same automotive "journalists" who think E36 is crap because that's what everyone reading/watching these "reviews" wants to hear. Which creates a perception exactly like...

Dude, you keep bringing up potential solutions for the problems that were long solved. Relay is $12 and takes 2 minutes to replace. Nobody cares if it can be made to last longer or improved upon -...

No, the kit was crap. I did the job and made it look great despite the crappy filler and paint. This review was to warn others NOT to get the kit.
