Re: Fixing 304 SS Mid-Pipe?

Hard to say exactly. There is not a ton of material there. Too much and the gasket won't seal. They are predrilled for 10mm bolts. I drilled out a bit, checked the fit, drilled out a bit more. ...

Re: Fixing 304 SS Mid-Pipe?

This. The flanges don't line up. I just went through this (within the past month). Very frustrating. The proper fix would be to grind and break the flange welds, mount, and re-weld. More than I...

Re: Joe's E36 M3 Coupe Journal

Finally finished installing the Super Sprint Euro exhaust system. What a pain.
It came out looking good but I do wish SS would do a better job with fitment

Used the original heat shield which...

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

There are a couple threads on this. It fits. It just doesn't fit the stock hanger as well as it should. The good news it that it is way lighter than the stock muffler so less stress on the mounts.

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

Not fun but quite a lot of learning. I REALLY wish I had pre-fit everything before the engine went back in the car. I'll never again assume something fits. I did get them on sale. But not 1/2...

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

Yes, I think I knew I'd have to go back in and try to get it off the transmission. Just wanted someone to confirm it. Damn.

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

No, I am not near death. But I sometimes feel that someone at Supersprint should be called to Judgement. :)

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

Went back under the car and noticed that the forward header, just past the collector, is pressing against a high spot where the transmission mates to the engine block. I would say it is just barely...

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I don't want to do that kind of messing around.

Re: 1998 Alpine White Sedan Build Thread

No, my cams are from Epic Motorsports. Just the TB. Guess I'll wait and see how it goes. Not sure there is much I can do about the TB short of sourcing a replacement. I've heard of the issues...

Re: 1998 Alpine White Sedan Build Thread

You mentioned earlier about a problem with the Riot Racing TB. What issue did you run into? I had them bore out and install a new TB butterfly plate in mine. It looks ok, feels ok, but I have not...

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

So I finally got the mid pipe connected. I ended up drilling out the mid pipe flange bolt holes in order to get enough clearance to bolt to the headers (the SS euro headers have threaded holes to...

Re: 1998 E36 M3 Dakar HPDE Car - Picture Intensive

I used a bit of lubricant just to make sure they don't squeak. The top piece has to be correctly rotated. You notice a cutout that has to mate properly with the unibody (it should be obvious). The...

Re: 1998 E36 M3 Dakar HPDE Car - Picture Intensive

You've been busy! Did you get the RevShift rear subframe bushings installed? I installed the green ones. Definitely a different fit than OEM. A lot more material. Barely enough thread left for...

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

The Euro version has a slip on connection at the muffler (at least one pipe is slip on). The issue is at the mid pipe to header. That is not slip on is it on the US version?

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

Mine is the euro setup. Hopefully the US version has better fitment.
I'd definitely leave the headers loosely bolted until the mid pipe is firmly bolted up.

Re: Joe's E36 M3 Coupe Journal

Moving along.

The wiring is pretty much in to the point where the manifold can be installed. I added sensors for secondary water temp, oil temp, and oil pressure gauges and wired through the...

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

<groan>
I was afraid of that. Yes, fitment is a bit rough. Even trying to cleanly route the rear O2 sensors is a pain. Can't wait until I get to the muffler.
Thanks.

Re: SuperSprint Euro exhaust system install grief

If you mean the muffler, it is not installed. The mid pipe is hanging from the rubber hangers at the rear. The only thing I can loosen is the headers at the head and see if there is any "play" in...

Interesting..., you won't stress fracture the manifold where it joins the head?
Would make my life much easier.

Re: Shifter rod removal end exhaust manifold bolt question.

Avoid the biggest headache by not breaking the bolts to begin with. They do not always break but you'll certainly have a greater chance of breaking by hitting them with an impact wrench. And try...

I got mine off with penetrating oil only. I soaked it for a couple days and then gently applied torque. They broke free. If you have a torch then certainly apply heat first. Most people don't...
