Re: Bob Lutz suggests buying a Tesla before they go bankrupt

I've always viewed Tesla as having a big disadvantage in the auto market. I can only imagine the difficulty any of the big 3 would have trying to get such a grand operation off the ground on the...

Re: The govt vs the car guy. Which side are you on?

I could see it being possible with programming the variable cam timing for an extreme amount of internal EGR, shutting the intake valve earlier and injecting less fuel, etc. I'm skeptical that it...

Re: The govt vs the car guy. Which side are you on?

Interesting. Just the plug-in or they pass a sniffer? Emissions tune that gets flashed to something else after the check?

Re: The govt vs the car guy. Which side are you on?

I think this should target the consumer. Maybe the off road waiver should require VIN verification, and that VIN is entered into a database that lets the cops or emissions checker know that the...

Re: The govt vs the car guy. Which side are you on?

Yes.

For selling without a signed "off road only" waiver? Yes. Otherwise, unless converters become a requirement for all engines regardless of off road use, I suspect you'd want to go after the...

Re: Indictment Watch

You said "big" govt, which to me means things other than the local DMV, but I digress. Do you think napping on the job is exclusive to govt employees?

Re: Indictment Watch

TIL the DMV = big govt. What is your point? Time to privatize the DMV?

Glider truck loophole:

Over the next decade, the pollution from that de-regulation is estimated to pump as much as 13x...

Re: Indictment Watch

Willful malfeasance at the EPA is enough for me. Do you see good reasons for him to stay, besides an allegiance to a document whose authors would probably disagree with you in this case?

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

In a word, no, you're just arguing extremes.

And you know what happened? Suddenly lane splitting accidents made up almost 1/5 of motorcycle accidents.

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

Considering that the above is what you've concluded from the conversation so far, you're probably not the person to ask, but anyway, can you offer an explanation as to why insurance companies haven't...

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

Almost 1/3 of the lane splitting accidents in the study cited excessive speed of the rider. So it seems at least ~1/3 of the riders don't actually GAF about the safety of lane splitting, they just...

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

Indeed a relevant question. If had to choose between allowing cars or motorcycles to lane split, I'd choose to allow it for motorcycles.

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

Yeah but it crosses the line when your valid reasons involve increased risk and accountability for everyone else.

Ok, well I don't disagree with your stance if you're willing to admit your argument is grounded in the selfish reasons.

No. It's just telling you the safest way to lane split is at less than...

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

Read the entire study. It spells out its limitations because the authors were concerned (accurately) that someone would come along and interpret the data as a safety win for lane splitting. The...

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

The authors went so far as to spell it out on pg. 18 of the study: "The current data set cannot be used to compare the collision risks for lane-splitting or non-lane-splitting riders."

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

If lane splitting is safer overall, wouldn't insurance companies have already lobbied to make it legal nationwide? Surely they have performed an unbiased statistical analysis and concluded it's not...

Re: Should motorcycles be allowed to lanesplit?

I'm drawing the obvious conclusion. Considering there is only 1 state where it's legal, the onus is on you to make the case that it reduces the number of accidents (aka makes things safer). That...
