Turns out that the aux input is ignored unless at least one high level input is seeing a minimum of 4V. I applied 12V to one of the high level inputs, and the amp sprang into life.

It's actually dissipating about 5mW tops so the smallest resistor you can get and comfortably solder will be perfect.

INPA is useful at a time like this as it lets you see the digital inputs from such switches. Takes out a lot of the guesswork.

The only time I've seen a flashing gear number is when the bonnet is open. If memory serves me correctly opening the driver's door also knocks the car in neutral (and makes a "bong" noise).

Not quite true. You have to remove the airbag in order to remove the trim to gain access to the switches, but you can then remove the small PCBs with the switches on without removing the paddles...

If it was the SMG pump that was running (given the cog light this seems likely), perhaps the salmon pink relay was stuck and the hot clutch smell could be the pump motor. I suggest pulling the relay...

What was the temperature when you measured the pressure? If cold, that pressure is good. With the car properly warmed up you should see nearer 75 bar.

Hard to tell from the recording. Your tapping sounds s bit louder and deeper, but could easily be the same. Whip off the covers and check for a flat on top of the rockers.

Are you sure about the pressure relief valve? I'd believed it to be a one way valve with pressure relief such that pressure wouldn't bleed back when the pump stopped, but also that it would prevent...

If I saw that in my oil filter I'd not drive the car again until the sump had been removed, pickup flushed out, and pump replaced. Too much engine depending on that oil being clean...

Yup those two tiny 1" long springs. I had my clutch replaced at the weekend and these springs were replaced as a precaution. A wise one as it turns out as on one the end coil had snapped off!

I believe that MIL request was reported by the DME simply to report it had turned on the fault light due to some unspecified transmission fault. I think you pulled the codes from the wrong place!

I believe you need to remove the rear diff cover to press out the two rear bushes. There may be a way round that, but that's what James at Redish told me and I think he knows his stuff.
