Did you get any trap speeds? They indicate power better than ET. Without knowing more, your 14.5 suggests the car is performing in the range it should be when cool.

Yes, centrifugals are predictable and controllable and that makes them easier to drive on a track. I went from centrifugal to turbo on my E36M3 and much prefer the turbo but it's a street car.

Lining up the arrows with the edge of the head is not required but BMW put them there because doing that makes the job a little quicker if you use bmw's timing method. There are other timing methods...

I don't think anything more is needed. It seems so simple to me but maybe I am missing something. If the exhaust sprocket arrow is lined up with the edge of the head, you are good.

Cut a one inch piece off an Allen wrench or socket. Stick it in the drain or fill plug. Use a wrench on that. There are actually low profile Allen sockets made for this kind of work.

Unless you rebuilt the electronics as well, the TA is still prone to failure. I have replaced gears before but that does not necessarily fix the problem.

I never had any noise, but when I changed my fluids around 60k when I did the rod bearings, I used the FM fluid and continue to have no noise. Sometimes I wonder whether lockup might be improved...
