Re: Obioban's 2005 Imola Red M3 coupe (56K mass murder)

Fair points. I've never driven an E28 or E34, but presume those were more fun as cars were just lighter back then.

Re: Obioban's 2005 Imola Red M3 coupe (56K mass murder)

Wow I am surprised a 530i is 500lb less than an M5.

Also think an S54 E39 would be a mismatch, a comfortable cruiser with a high strung engine that wants to be wrung out.

I can see a V10 E46 or F20C 2002 because they are so different. But an S65 in an E46, while cool, is just not different enough. I'm actually agreeing with your prior post.

Re: Obioban's 2005 Imola Red M3 coupe (56K mass murder)

Hey Ian, a few questions based on your part list on page 1.
1. You mentioned "Beisan timing chain tensioner guide." What is this? I can't find it on this site or the BS webpage.
2. Which RTABs...

Re: American racing headers Results

I bet stock box with an elbow and drop in filter is fine until you really start pushing the envelope.

Man these gains are juicy. Can’t imagine what they’d be with some forced air up front.

Both of mine fit, one is for the fronts and one is for the rears. I marked them on the top of the adjusters but forget which is which right now.

Thanks for sharing.
Peak gains of 23-25whp, starting around 5K from the headers alone. Nice gains, and cool that you tune it yourself.
I am surprised the air filter is that restrictive! I'm also...

Re: What else to replace during VANOS lockdown?

Depending on miles/year, I'd replace the vanos oil line as well. Otherwise that list above looks pretty complete.

Re: How rare is M-Texture Alcantara Interior?

I like it, but wouldn’t spec it. And if you don’t love it, it’s silly to keep it. You’re paying for it by keeping it.

Interesting. Yes, mine came with the "inserts" pictured below. I would have thought the inserts were not TCK specific (but rather maybe E46M specific at best). What is your DD?

Re: Mileage vs Maintenance

I wouldn't rule out a well maintained higher mileage car, but I would always try to get the lowest mileage and well-maintained car I could.
Type of use matters as well, not all miles are equal....

How is the FL bearing stronger? Curious if this is real or theoretical (eg, “military grade”), and how.
Have you seen any RTABs fail with and due to OE style ball joints?

Re: This would be a interesting option for a vented hood

That’s nice too. I like that placement more, maybe even a hair forward. I’d want the grills matching (holes vs honeycomb).

Re: This would be a interesting option for a vented hood

I would just buy the OE vents for an E9xM and mold them into my OE hood. Someone on here did that and it looked pretty clean.

Edit: Found it. I'd place the vents maybe 4-6'' further aft, more like...

Re: What's your view on superchargers?

Weight is detailed a few pages back.
My system is +35lb, 25 for blower and 10 for extra coolant.
Some systems could probably get up to 75 with metal plenums and intercoolers.

Re: What's your view on superchargers?

Rotrex is supposedly better for mid range, Vortech is better for a stock-like linear buildup.
