Re: Should rebuilding brake calipers be a maintenance item?

My experience tells me don't rebuild the calipers unless they're actually sticking. You may well cause them to stick if you rebuild them unnecessarily.

Re: Fuel Pump Relay Error?

Usually it's the pump. I guess try checking for voltage at the EKP module. If it's ~10.5v, the module is fine. Alternatively try connecting the pump direct to 12v and see if it runs.

Re: E46 M3 Steering Wheel Airbag $100

Is this a recall replacement or no? If it wasn't replaced, I'm not sure selling a Takata airbag (especially from Florida) is the wisest of choices given potential liability.

Re: The Official Bring a Trailer (BaT) Listing Thread - E46 M3

MK60 is present from September 02 onwards. That’s probably most difficult running change to retrofit, so September 02 would be the absolute floor for me.

Re: RTAB Monoball Thread

They're basically solid aluminum cups. They would bring the subframe somewhat closer to the body, which should help with the roll center.

I have this with my 25% AS SSK "autocross edition" kit (main difference is that it uses a bearing for the shifter lever instead of the nylon cup). I don't know what to attribute to what, but overall...

Part numbers are:

33317749354 (front left)
33317749359 (front right)
33317749355 (rear)

They show up in ECS' catalog, though I don't know if that order would actually go through. I think...

Re: RTAB Monoball Thread

I’m running brand new stock subframe bushings. I am wondering if I should have gone solid, but too late for that now. May switch to the Motorsport “bushings” at some point.

Re: Best subframe repair options as of July 2018?

I went with the weld kit. Matt was more comfortable with welding, and with there being cracks present, it's not like welding could have been avoided altogether anyway. If I had a low mileage car with...

Re: Obioban's 2005 Imola Red M3 coupe (56K mass murder)

I found just sticking the top rubber mount in the bottom slot moves it enough to let the airbox fit fine while still keeping it secured pretty well.

I've noticed the same thing, but I always assumed it was more due to my age (was 16 when I had my ZHP, 19 when I first got my M3).

Re: error code 105 : Plausibility Engine Temperature

Plausibility can come down to a lot of factors. In this case, I'd guess that the other sensors (oil temp, radiator outlet temp) make the DME think the coolant temp should be something else.

Re: BMW upset with E46 M3 enthusiasts

Why not an E46 non-M then? Cheaper, more reliable, lighter, and better steering feel (especially w/ the Z4M control arm bushings). Available in 4 doors too if you want practicality.

Well fine, the ones are kept in a time capsule and are never driven won't experience failure. Everything else will.

Re: BMW upset with E46 M3 enthusiasts

The check valve would be placed after the vanos oil pump (which is driven by the exhaust hub). The oil pump pumps the oil in pulses. So you get a period of high pressure, a period of no pressure, and...

Not quite. The root cause is that they eliminated a one-way valve that prevented oil from flowing backwards and putting the exhaust hub under unacceptable load. The S50b32 and S62 (which otherwise...

Re: BMW upset with E46 M3 enthusiasts

As much as I like the car, I would say the VANOS and 'subframe' issues automatically exclude it from being considered well made, even if they're fixable.

Re: Learned something new (to me) about our subframes

Not really. It’s a design flaw in all of them rather than a small batch that wasn’t welded together right or whatever.
