Re: Buying a low mileage car that's been sitting around: what to worry about

Your car had 90k miles on the odometer when you put it into storage. IMO, blaming these issues on the storage rather than the 90k miles is dubious. I see you're located in Menlo Park, CA. That area...

Re: P.A. Soft - BMW Scanner

I tried completely deinstalling all FTDI drivers and then reinstalling only the BMW scanner drivers. The same thing happened. The driver for the controller installed properly, but the USB Serial...

Re: P.A. Soft - BMW Scanner

Thanks for replying.

That's interesting. There was a thread about this problem on e46fanatics so I replied to it. Someone sent me a link to x64 drivers, which I tried to install. After doing so,...

Re: P.A. Soft - BMW Scanner

Not to hijack the thread, but I bought a BMW Scanner clone from ebay and I'm not able to get it working on windows 7 x64. I didn't notice the fine print on the ebay listing that says Windows XP only....

Re: Anyone else's K DCAN cable is like this?

When the switch is set to connect pins 7 and 8, the cable will work to provide access to the DME and the rest of the modules. If pins 7 and 8 aren't connected, only the OBD-II bus will be accessible...

Re: Anyone else's K DCAN cable is like this?

E46 M3s require pins 7 and 8 to be connected, because there are two k busses. Newer cars don't require this. The switch allows you to use the cable on cars with or without the busses connected. The...

Re: Vanos splined shaft installation

It's been a while since I had mine apart, but I don't think this is a correct statement. IRRC, you could rotate it more than one. The point is that the curved portion and the straight portion are not...

Re: Vanos splined shaft installation

This is the way to go. There is no "sweet tooth". When the hubs are torqued, it's the cams that are moving, not the hubs. If you follow Raj's procedure, the cam will be timed perfectly. It's easier...

Re: TV series recommendations

So, who else finished watching narcos? I really enjoyed the season. Wasn't sure what to think about the finale. It seemed like a perfect, slightly ambiguous way to end the series, but I heard it has...

Re: WyattH | E46 M3 Journal

Do you know when they changed the design of the floor mats? Putting the velcro on the foam was brain-dead. This seems to be an improvement. The foam ripped on my mat but was still in quite good...

Re: Anyone familiar with F48 X1?

Thanks for the reply. I have no illusions that the X1 is a beast in disguise, but I'm looking for something that burns less fuel and has AWD for when we get snow, which is usually a few times every...

I've been daily driving my M3 but have kept the miles way down because of close location to office and lots of travel. I will be taking a position much farther away from home, so will have hour long...

Re: Steps to take to ensure flood car doesn't run into issues?

Really sorry you got flooded, but you probably saved the car by getting it up on the jack stands. Use contact cleaner and compressed air on the wiring harnesses that got wet. If any modules got wet,...

Are you sure this image is of Irma? As of 11PM EDT, the NOAA Hurricane Center shows Irma centered south of the Bahamas on the north coast of Cuba.

Re: Miami peeps (was nice knowing u guys)

Yah, the smoke has been amazing this summer. It's strange seeing the orange-red cast to the sunlight. And we're supposedly overdue for a big earthquake. :shifty:
