Trunk edge plastic trim protection

Did the search, Google, etc.

Does anyone know how to get these plastic protector-type trim pieces off of the edge of the left and right trunk jams? They are on there pretty doggone good (won't peel away like a sticker). As you can see mine are severely cracked/faded and I want to replace them as I tidy up the trunk. Probably a non-issue for most, but nonetheless....

I thought about using a heat gun to try to toast them up a bit and then get a plastic pry tool under them to scrape them off. Someone must have tackled this and gotten them off somehow.

And I will need a part # for replacement. I assume everybody has these and they are a BMW part?

Thanks.

Have you tried realoem.com yet? Personally, I've never seen that.

Looked on RealOEM but nothing jumped out. Mostly just sheet metal and fasteners. The plastic strips do not have any part #s etched on them. I assume its a factory piece however. They seem precisely cut for the job they are doing and are on both sides of the trunk jam edge.

Its a sedan, dont know if that makes a difference. I gotta think others have these too?

It's possible it was part of the wing's install kit.

I pulled them off with my fingers and cleaned it up with goo gone. They didn't put up much of a fight and my car was a garaged 90K mile car when I did it. They weren't weathered at all.

mine are in the same condition as OP. i never found a replacment part, but the 3m clear paint protective stuff seems like the ticket, theres a spray on too that 3m makes and maybe it dosnt suck. i was thinking of using it and just taping off the original and removing it and spraying the exposed area. enless someone can get a peice off intact i cant see another method of easily duplicating the shape and placement exactly.

May not be a bad idea to place it on the bottom of the "wing tips" that comes into contact with that area. This way the protection is still there but unseen.
