View Full Version : Da' Beater + new Volks **Pics**
bradb1us Wed, Aug-31-2005, 05:19:14 AM Aight ya'll. Here's my winter car. I'm actually really starting to like it. It's still slow as ****, but I think it's one of the most beautiful cars are on the road now. Neuspeed sport springs (about a 1" drop on top of ultrasport suspension). Volk LE37-T's-- 19 x 8.5 with Dunlop Sports, 235/35/zr19. Check it out:

Is today the big day? Aren't you buying/leasing a new Benz for the wifey today?
Makr Wed, Aug-31-2005, 02:57:26 PM Chip that focker, and crank up the boost. Looks nice man.
///molloy Wed, Aug-31-2005, 03:14:50 PM I am not sure I am comfortable any longer with the term "beater" in this context.
That car looks f'ing amazing.
Great work B.
Volk wheels are Priemo. PRIEMO baby!
Let me drive that sometime?
Antwerp Wed, Aug-31-2005, 03:59:37 PM Wow. Looks great! and it has 4 wheel drive!
Real Clean Looking Brad! Now you can think through the winter about which car to buy next. :D

I know. Right now anytime I need a speed fix, I just call my Father. So far he's been pretty generous with me in regards to letting me drive his car. This situation can't last very long though. My soul longs for a P car.
Antwerp Wed, Aug-31-2005, 04:44:41 PM Man, talk about extremes. M3 Comp -> 1.8T -> Turbo S
Were do you set the benchmark? Where's the medium ground?
Pimp Brad, Pimp. :D

Pimp Brad, Pimp. :D
I can honestly say this with a straight face: I think my M3 Comp felt more in control at high speeds and in the twisties than the Turbo S does.
I don't know why, but the Turbo S feels a little loose. I took the 6th south off ramp at 90 ish mph yesterday and the front tires were breaking loose. My M3 stayed planted the whole time at that speed.
Antwerp Wed, Aug-31-2005, 07:45:43 PM Really? It has to be the weight then.
Let me see how much it weighs...
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/porsche/911/100498206/specs.html?tid=edmunds.n.researchlanding.leftsiden av..8.Porsche*
:hmm: 3,660 lbs
That's only a couple hundred extra pounds... That is suprising that it doesn't do that good? Maybe the factory Rubber is shit?
12:03 Wed, Aug-31-2005, 08:15:48 PM Ant, its engineering. The M3 wasnt engineered for a straight line. The P car was. P car doesnt have the weight on the front tires that the M3 has.
and while Im stirring up mud, did you know I would take a modded E46 M3 over a stock Turbo any day of the week?* There is more to life than going fast... The M3 is driveable. You cant part a nice new 100k Turbo at the movies and leave it alone for 3 hours. Who knows what the hooligans (camRON) will do to it. Plus youd have people drooling on it so much, youd never be able to keep it clean. The maint is way too spendy. You might be able to afford to own it, but can you afford to maintain it?
M3 > Turbo.
Fin.

dunno mang. They are pushin me. Sticker of 35900. They are giving me 2500 off sticker cause its an 05, 1000 off cause I used to work there (was a lot tech way back in the day) and they know me, with 2500 down, was 489 after tax per month. Thats a 36 mos lease with 15k per year miles.
Reasons why I haven signed yet:
A. they sold the red one my wife wanted.
B. Comes with Pilot A/S tires. Not the stickiest cause they are all season, but not all season enough to do well in the snow. So I would have to get another set of tires.
C. This car would be for my wife, who doesnt car about cars or what she drives. 500 bucks goes along way in the world of BMWs. I dont know that I can justify giving her a new benz, when she would be just as happy with a base model camry...

Yeah. I've never had a $500 dollar a month car payment, but according to my trusty payment calculator, it says:
$30k dollar car
$0 down
72 month loan
5%
$483 per month
You can buy a pretty damn nice car for $30 grand. '05, under warranty, low miles. Take your pick from 3 series, C class, A4's, A6's, S60's, etc. If your wife doesn't care, why not buy her a nice Honda for half that much and apply the rest to your //M3 that you'll be buying soon??
12:03 Wed, Aug-31-2005, 08:43:46 PM I failed to mention that I was gonna lease that Benz. That way I dont have to screw with it when it comes time to get a new one. 20 bucks says I buy an E46 M3 in the next 3 weeks...
12:03 Wed, Aug-31-2005, 08:44:41 PM Base model CAMRY here I come.
:265:

If I knew you better, I'd bet against you only so I could pay you that $20 dollars 3 weeks from now. I'm afraid I'd jinx it though.
Antwerp Wed, Aug-31-2005, 09:04:31 PM Put me down for $20. :D
CameronH Thu, Sep-01-2005, 02:27:07 AM Ben, Post this in OT, and maybe you could make some money.
///molloy Thu, Sep-01-2005, 02:57:01 AM Brad what did you pay for your 1.8....?
I am considering one for my wife, to replace her gas guzzling pathfinder..
any tips?
2002maniac Thu, Sep-01-2005, 08:38:53 AM hehe, the wheels on your "beater" are worth more than my daily driver!

I paid $24000 for it. I think it books at $26,000 on trade in and $31,000 retail, so I felt like I got a good deal on it. It's the best car I've ever owned in terms of gas mileage. I'm averaging 27 mpg (75% freeway, 25% city) and well over 30 mpg on the freeway.

Ya, sell that thing fast. Everyone else has the same Idea.
When you sell that SUV it will be worth double if it has a full tank of gas. :D :(
I think I'm going to wait a few months and pick up a '04 Excursion for $2K and I'll just store it for fun.
Then, In 20 years I'll sell it to a museum, because it will be a fossil by that time... :D :D

This is making me want to drive one of those nicely modded M3's.
Chasmanbmwfan Thu, Sep-01-2005, 04:42:25 PM C. This car would be for my wife, who doesnt car about cars or what she drives.
My wife is the exact same way. The reason to buy your wife a nice car is that you may want to drive it once in a while. Get yourself the fun sports car and get her a luxury vehicle that you enjoy (just don't let the kiddies in with their ice cream cones).

Ben's been looking for an M3 ever since I got involved with teh dA. I'll take that bet.
Chasmanbmwfan Thu, Sep-01-2005, 04:45:50 PM I paid $24000 for it.
$24 bills for a winter beater? That is more money than I ever spent on a car my whole life until I bought my 7.

If I get married soon, that beater will probably be my only car for awhile. I hate financial responsibility.
Will Pwr Thu, Sep-01-2005, 05:11:52 PM sweet!
Teh Slows Thu, Sep-01-2005, 05:22:31 PM Hey Brad, I think me and Cam saw your old car on the freeway. Was the guy you sold it to bald (or really short hair?)
He was driving quite spiritedly!
Antwerp Thu, Sep-01-2005, 05:43:27 PM He said he sold it to someone in California. It was someone else.
Teh Slows Thu, Sep-01-2005, 05:59:09 PM Hmmm then there is another comp in 'tah

see, its like this. I sold my last M3 because I could, and I wish I hadnt. I really was around for along time in a M3. Id had one for along time... I havent even been M3-less for even a year yet... She left me November 29th 2004...
You really need to get some fat seat time in an E46 M3. You will be very pleased.

Why's that? You would then have two incomes.

Yes, but the girl I would be marrying just got out of law school. Law school loans take priority over a new Porsche. I think I'll have to buy the P car before I get married, that way she'll just have to deal with it.

That's much better than just starting law school. Where's she going to work?

She's a clerk for an appelate judge in Salt Lake. She's actually from Tennessee, passed the bar there, but felt like this would be a good resume builder. I've already told her she should have gone into patent law, but apparently she has more of a business/accounting background than an engineering one.

She's right, it is a good resume builder (read: the pay sucks). Those are hard jobs to get -- she must be smart.

The pay does svck. That being said, she only works like 5 hours a day, I swear. Even during "work" she's instant messaging me the whole time. Crazy lawyers.

That party will end next year when she signs on with one the big SLC firms for a 6-figure income (and you're out cruising in your new twin turbo).
