View Full Version : Division in da dA

I was out of town when the mutiny occurred and didnít realize at the time that there were some with strong feelings that we should stay with BF.c The purpose of this thread is to see if there is something we can do to get united again. It seems silly and unproductive (as if posting were productive) to have to monitor two forums (incidentally, Iím posting this in both forums so youíll have to check both Ė call it a parallel discussion).

As far as Iím concerned, I donít care whether we post on BF.c, M3.c or BS.c, but I know some of you have strong feelings on the issue. I would very much like to see us in one place, not scattered across both. I realize that some of you have been posting in M3.c for some time now (cheaters), but I am talking about an agreed-to forum where the dA can hang out together.

Here is my proposal. Before we can proceed with a mechanism for determining what forum to use, I think we ALL have to agree that being together is more important than our own reasons for selecting one forum over another. IF we can all agree to set aside our personal feelings in favor of the unity of the dA, then (and only then) does it make sense to discuss how to decide what that forum is going to be. I would invite discussion on this issue in this thread. For what itís worth, I like having us together in a single forum (obviously, or I wouldnít be wasting time at work writing this post).

If we can all agree to set aside personal biases in favor of dA unity on a single forum, I propose that we decide which forum to use by pure democratic vote. Many of us may have decided to switch to M3.c in the heat of the moment and, upon further reflection, may now make a different decision. Others of us (like me) just assumed the mutiny was complete and set up camp at M3.c before realizing that some precious family members were left behind. Even though a brief poll was taken, a vote now after we have all had a chance to live with the change for a while and think about things after having calmed down may turn out differently.

I donít think the solution is to conduct another poll. A forum poll suffers from a couple of problems. First, if we did a poll where your personal vote is exposed, people might not vote ďtheir heart.Ē If we did an anonymous vote, we could get non-dA people voting and skew the results. I would suggest that you all nominate me as the official dA pollster (hey, if you canít trust a lawyer, who can you trust?) and email me your vote (but not yet please). That way I can ensure that only official dA members vote and that your votes will remain anonymous (unless I am tortured mercilessly). If we all decide that this is the way to go, I will start a thread requesting your vote and include explicit voting instructions.

First, however, I need to know if we are ALL willing to abide by the results of such a vote. In other words, are we willing to set aside personal feelings and switch to M3.c or go back to BF.c in order to maintain the unity of the dA???

DISCUSS (thanks).

Ive said it before and Ill say it again.

This is the second most guns ever pointed at me.

Chas I think that this is a great idea, and in my heart I dont think its really needed. Though if the people do it, then I will join as well. I think everyone is ready to go back to the old ways and the old places. I am ok with that. I dont really care Ive decided.

Not only do I not have a car, but I cannot say that I have the time to devote to being a fully active member of the dA. I think they should return home and call it a day.

Im not saying I wont go back. Im saying that in haste perhaps I led some people away, when in fact, I dont care that much (but can get emotional at times) and dont really have time to support that much posting.

See its like this, I work about 60-65 hours per week. I dont get to see my family much. So when I am not at work I usually spend time with them. When I am on boring conf calls, or doing boring reports here at work, I browse a little bit of intarweb. My work has BFC blocked. For some reason this board isnt blocked. So I can post here, but not there during the day. Work is only going to get busier for me and I dont know that I will post much on either, so please, dont do anything for my sake.

I'll still visit both sites know matter what the vote turned out. If it goes back to bf.c I will keep a very active membership here, I like the Mods, I like the memebers. Its a welcoming place and I'd hate to leave. The only reason I still post on bf.c right now is to talk to Johnny, and the other members.

I do like not getting the "SORRY FORUM TO BUSY TRY AGAIN LATER"

That is fine with me Chas, but I think everyone knows what my vote will be.

The issue was personal to me, because I became involved as such.
ÖI really didn't mean to drag anyone else in, although I may have vicariously. For that I apologize.

I really like the way things used to be. Obviously, I posted a lot! ;)
...and Things will not be the same at that other place anymore.
I don't see anything over there for me anymore. I just don't like my freedom of speech to be encumbered upon.
I still fully plan on coming to meets and stuff, I love hanging out with my fellow dA Members...

Actually, Iíd like to add to your thoughts if I may Chas?
What does everyone think of me just starting our own dA forum?
It could just be a car enthusiast club. Not just BMW either. All vehicle lovers welcome. That's the essence of dA anyway, isn't it?
Additionally, Jeff has started his own forum as some of you may know...I think he's been doing a great job and the results have been rewarding for him...
ÖIíve been chatting with him about the specifics of starting your own forum, but I didnít really know how to gauge dAís interest.

So, if I may do so here...? What does everyone think of having our own dA forum?
I would encourage you to visit Jeffís site, if nothing else, to see the format and get Idea of what Iím talking about.

Thanks, and Bless dA!

Either forum is fine
I dont mind what place we are at. I never post to much in OT type of threads.. But I do every now and then..

I would like to be at M3.C for the fact they dont mind if he do get OT on some subjects.

I like both places ( I do like BF.C more on I think it has better sections besides the regional) But even if we are at the M3 place I can still come to this one and check out those threads...

So for DA posting and what going on in UT I would like to be at M3F.C

But I would also like to see every one together in one spot and I dont care what place that would be I would rather not have the group split.... and both be posting on diffrent sites thats lame... and its a lame reason to split up our group, just from a few threads geting towed, Yes some should not have and others I totaly understand why they did tow them.

But for that to split up such a great group we have created is really dumb IMHO.

So what ever place is fine but I will vote for M3F.c for DA/UT posting...

My .02

^ is what I posted on BF.C

And still think the same and I am cool with DA on forum, I wish I could be in more of the group meets and things like that but its hard down here in AZ, I am sure you will see alot more off me in 6-7 months when I finally get to move back home

I'm intrigued by Ant's idea of having our own forum. The thought occurred to me that maybe Jeff might be able to provide a back-door to a sub-forum through his site, though I'm completely unaware of what kinds of problems that could create for him. The only disadvantage I can think of is that sometimes the general populace will pick up on an interesting thread and contribute to the discussion. This happened a lot in our "sexiest car evar" thread and was kinda fun.

I'm not hearing anyone say they absolutely would not go back, though many have expressed a preference for staying here. It is still early, however, and I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks.

I don't think it would be fair to impose of Jeff in such a manner.
I'd rather just do it right the first time and get our own forum... Then I could work to get even more memebers, even if they are only Online Members.

Wait, do you have to buy Stage 1 for $9400 first, then stage 2 for an additional $10,900? I imagine that's not including labor, right?

*Edit: And it's a mandatory exhaust, manifold, clutch upgrade?

No, you just need Stage 2 + Full Free Flow Exhaust + BHS Clutch & Flywheel.

Probably $5,000 Install.

So, about $18K :D

That's actually pretty damn good if you ask me. You'd have a car that would be nearly perfect in every way!

By the way, I think I like the handling of my //M3 better than the Turbo S. It might be because it's a Cabriolet, but it just didn't feel as light and nimble. It'll tear a normal //M a new bunghole though in a straight line.

My plan is of right now when I move back to UT sell the Dinan 325I Twin Screw My M3 and get the wifey a Used E46 M3 ( I want to try and find a comp package with SMG/NAV) But I also want black.. ( interor can go many ways) But I think thats going to be a hard combo to find most the Comp are blue......

But we will see what really happens with all these new M's coming out.. M5, M6, E90 M3.... MMMMMMM :)

plus we plan on moving out of sandy and into drapper for a larger home.
So house payment is going to skew what type of cars I want...... :(

We will need to sit down and get a better idea of what will and won't be allowed.
( I'll be the devil and he'll be the voice of reason I'm sure! ;) )

As of now, here are the details.
- The address would be, www.driveAddict.com/forums, in order to create a seamless transition from site already in place.
- JB would be an automatic mod.
- dA welcomes car enthusiasts of all types.
- We would allow PG-13 posting - No Porn or excessive Swearing will be allowed.
- There will be no tolerance for personal Attacks. Debating is fine, but beyond that, it will be teh BAN!
- I will be paying for the hosting, Iím working on that right now.
- JB would like to have VB3 like this forum, but it is cost prohibitive at this point in time.

I have quite a few things to do to get this off the ground, but Iím very excited.

yeah. well in all seriousness, I took tomorrow off. We are trading in the maxima and leasing something else. Im thinking either Benz 230K sport, or Audi A3 or A4. Any input? I will not drive that maxi another MILE!

Brand new B7 A4? or B6 A4? All I can tell you is that my 1.8t is getting more than 30 mpg on the freeway. I live filling up only once a week as opposed to twice a week.

Ideally I would like a B6 ultrasport. Thats a sexy car STOCK. But I dont know what the lease it like on em. I want to lease something in warranty and factory maint so I dont have to do anything to it.

This is a sick car, stock (although not an ultrasport):

Just take over Marci's ultrasport. you know that is the exact car you want. I'll include a chip and injectors. That way I can get her the cayenne tt or the rr sport she wants

C class is sort of puzzy, why not go look at a e90 325i, or a B7. The B7 A4 2.0T is a great car and they have a special lease on them now.
