Performance car enthusiasts can make themselves ready for a feast of BMW M3s as the German carmaker prepares a number of derivatives.
Unlike the previous M3 range, which only consisted of a coupe and cabriolet, the upcoming line-up will include a four-door sedan and a Touring (estate) too.
Not since the E36 3 Series range was there a four-door M3 but as we reported before, BMW is on track to bring this derivative back to rival cars such as the Audi RS4. It is like to be the first M3 model to break cover too - perhaps as early as next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The coupe and convertible M3s will probably be launched, along with the mainstream 3-Series coupe and drop-top, at next year's Geneva Motor Show.
There is no doubt that the next M3, will be the hottest performance 3 Series too. It will come with a new lightweight V8 producing about 295 kW using the latest dual-VANOS variable valve timing system and BMW's SMG transmission will be standard. .
Insiders say that BMW is implementing new engine build technology to keep the weight of the power train on par with that of the E46 M3
There are also some CGI pics on www.wheels24.co.za..

How much HP does 295KW converts to?
BMW F1 Tue, Aug-23-2005, 07:57:56 AM Sorry to say but nothing really new there actually a lot of that detail is now pretty much out of date considering the 4.0LV8 should shell out around 310Kw / 415HP.
I might close this thread down as there are plenty similar floating around here at the moment but PLEASE keep yr eyes and ears PEELED.
Thanks again...
All the best.

greggb Tue, Aug-23-2005, 11:35:20 AM Yeah no problem.. just keeping the momentum going..
There have been no new threads for a while now..
This is the first article I've seen in SA with a lower power output..
For a year now all the news and magazine articles have said the same thing..
330kW V8.. @ 9000 RPM.. so guess we will see though.. as long as its 300kW+ I will be happy!

pperumal Tue, Aug-23-2005, 12:09:18 PM I personally think that those pics on Wheels24 are really disappointing. I wonder what's the source of those pics - are they officially from BMW? If so, then we've got trouble as performance alone will not grab my attention. Like the M5, it's powerful but not great looking.
Idz21 Tue, Aug-23-2005, 12:41:51 PM I really hope they don't come out with an M3 wagon. That's just FUGLY!

I agree and I hope the M logo will be reserved for coupes, convertibles and the M5 but I guess it comes down to the question should they compete with Audi's S and M-B who slap AMG on anything with 4 wheels...

Yea that's true. Just slap on an 'is' on the logo and be done with it. Also, kill the quad exhaust. It just doesn't fit. I'm mostly concerned with that wagon contraption. I wouldn't mind seeing an M3 badge on the M3 sedan.
btw, the CGI pics of the new M3 coupe and sedan are down right disguisting! It's straight mini 5 and I hate it. I don't know if the car's performance and power alone will allow me to get over the fugly factor of the new M3.
vivid Tue, Aug-23-2005, 03:18:42 PM I'm torn about the CGI some I think are wicked and others are just ok... I really like the coupes CGIs that share some of the 6's lines and I not too keen on the two door E90 CGI variations.
///Joel Tue, Aug-23-2005, 03:51:55 PM Is this picture new? Its probably not but this was the first time Ive seen these.

that's the one which I thought looked especially disguisting :barf:
sleeks Tue, Aug-23-2005, 05:21:34 PM Why do all the recent photoshops have a bigger front wheel than the back......makes it look bad.

I dont know if its growing on me or the photoshops are getting better but I actually think with some new rims and lowered thats gonna look pretty dam good.
