Think the forum is great and need some advice from BMW enthusiasts that are not dealers trying just to make a buck.
I am interested in buying a M3 in the next couple of months. I have talked to multiple dealers and gotten different information from all of them on when they will stop taking orders for the current generation M3. I found one that said, "The current car will remain in production until late '06 or early '07. Then BMW will go about a year without building an M3 until the next generation is ready to go on sale in 2008."
So my quesiton is should I buy the current M3 or wait until 2008 for the next genearation M3? I am afraid with the other car companies coming out with new models, Audi S4 and RS4 and new C55 AMG and Lexus, the current M3 will not compare in speed, feel, technology and be inadequate to these new models? Thanks for the feedback and advice.

Iīd go for the current model.
Then wait for the new one to be on the market for a year and trade.
I wouldnīt get the E90 M3 right at launch, rather wait for the first
issues (there will be issues, guaranteed) to be sorted and then go for it!
What comes to comparison between Mercs and Audis, even the E90 M3 will probably have less power then the competiton.
I just read a test drive report on the new RS4, and the engine is supposedly great but the rest of the package isnīt keeping up with speed...
In speed the M3 compares well, at least on twisties.
In feel, I think the M3 is still on top of the bunch.
No matter what, some people will always bash your ride and say that a
boxter S will eat M3s alive. Might be, but so would an Ariel Atom. With half the price. The bottom line for me is that it houses 4 people (even 5), has a decent trunk, can easily be driven in snow and looks HOT.
Kinda lost the idea here :peace: but my message is:
Get the M3 now, then trade for the new model if you must. For all you know, the thing could be hideous.

I would order A 05/06 e46. I ordered mine a month ago and was just asking about the E90 M3 which the dealership didn't have much information on. But they did tell me how they have a list of people on a waiting list that are wanting to pay thousands of $$$ over MSRP for them. They made it sound like its happening at all over and because of the limited numbers that will be shipped here that they will go to the highest bidders. Below is a response from BMW of America regarding the time frame of ordering. :peace:
Per BMWUSA, looks like the E46 M3 coupe will be built until 05/06, convertible until 08/06, E90 M3 will be 2 years later as an 08/09 model, see below
Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding the 2006 M3. We appreciate your interest in ordering a 2006 M3.
Per the Ordering Guide, the current E46 M3 coupe will be produced until 5/2006, and the E46 M3 convertible until 8/2006. The new E90 M3 will be two years after that as a 2008 or 2009 model.
