I am in a dilema, do I get the M5 NOW! because I can. Or do I wait for the new M3, to save some bucks and get a more focused and edgy ride.

I guess the main question is, will the new M3 be quicker?

Also, the available colours for the new M5 are pretty bland.

What do you reckon I should do???? :nixweiss:

If it were me, I would wait for the M6. If you don't need a Sedan, why bother with the M5, just wait a little for the M6. I can see your point about the M3. If I had the choice between the M6/5 or the M3, I would definitely get the M6. You can't beat that V10 rumble and power.

why not get the m5 and the m3 later when it arrives. The M5 will be faster than the m3 and the m6 faster than the M5

I'd wait for the M3, because personally, I believe based on the new 3 series appearance, it will look far better than either the M5 or M6, and the 400-440 HP V8 engine in a lighter car will be equally if not more fun to drive than the V10 M5/M6. I believe some people here are underestimating how impressive looking the M3 may be based on the looks of the new 3 Series. I believe the car will grow on those who are not currently excited with its appearance, and if you compare the last generation 3 series 4 door with the M3, you will see that the look greatly improves. To me, the new 4 door 3 series looks better than the older model, so it is safe to say that there is a significant chance that we will have a new M3 to be excited about!

my feelings exactly....although the M5 and M6 are awesome cars that I would have no problem owning. On a side note, Interlagos blue and that new Indianapolis red they have out for the M5's and 6's are great colors.

Well this is one of those good dilemas. Should I go with the big boobed blonde or the big booty burnette, lol.

No seriously the M5 is a masterpiece, from the agressive body style and stance to its Balls out V10 engine. The M6 is definetly worthy to be considered over the new M3 because of great HP/weight ratio, but the 6 series design is just a complete disaster to me. For me it comes back down to the M5 and M3. But then again where trying to base our decisions on an M3 we can only speculate on how it will look. I truly believe that the M group will impress us all with the new M3 coupe. I would wait for the M3 which will probably be a lot funner to drive and more pleasing to look at.

And also spend a ton more $$$ for the 6.

I'd actually wait, because even though I hate Bangle, he may pull something out of his ass and actually fix the rear end of the new M3. Just because of that little hope, I'd say wait for the M3. Also, since you're waiting for the M3 and you can purchase an M5 (waiting list, 2 years) that means you don't really need the extra two doors do you? That means the M6 is the right car for you. It's a big coupe with a big V10 in it.

My dilema is tempered by the fact I have four kids that I have to drop off to school each mourning. My current E46 M3 seats five with a proper lap sash middle rear seatbelt.

Therefore the M6 is a no go since it only seats four. And I will never come to grips with its rump.

Regarding delivery of the M5, my local BMW dealer here on the Gold Coast Australia, says I can take delivery by August/September this year If I order now.

The thing is, I love doing motorkhana's and time trial sprints at our local race track. I don't think the 1830 kg M5 will give me the razor sharp agility of the much lighter M3.

But a V10 sedan that is supposedly quicker and faster over the standing kilometre than a Lamborghini Gallardo, definetly gets the desire meter pumping.

After reading your comments (which I appreciate), I think I will at least wait to see what the next M3 is in looks and performance.

Otherwise I might regret getting hitched to the bog boobed blonde, when in a couple of years a dark haired sultry supermodel wants to take me for a ride.

At least it's a good problem to have!

Eh first off the m6 is getting past 3500lbs. Why would anyone want to drive a ****ing huge brick like that. Second, someone said the rumble of the v10........ have you actually heard the engine in the m5/6? It redlines at almost 8500rpms. it sounds more like an indy car than a v10.

I along with many others im sure would be more than happy to drive an M6. Also 3500lbs plus....is not a whole lot more than the new M3 will probably weigh. Therefore, the new M6 is going to be rocket with its 500hp versus the 400hp M3.

...a rocket ship in a straight line. Id love to see it corner like an m3! Especially an e30 or e36 M3.

You should visit M5board.com. They have an M6 section. The M6 corners like a champ and the brakes are unbelievable. Also, independant tests are showing 0 - 62kmph at around 4.4 seconds, which equates to 4.1 - 4.2 seconds from 0 - 60mph.

The M6 (as well as the M5) is a beast.

Dealers I've talked to say only 200 M5s will be available during the first year here in the USA. Guaranteed to make prices skyrocket if you want to get your hands on one.

As far as the new M3, I am predicting 0 - 60 times in the 4.1 to 4.2 second range. The M3 is the sportiest model BMW offers and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Will also allow BMW to reclaim top spot in the manufacturers wars. Just hope BMW will import sufficient numbers of M3s to meet demand and prevent the spike in prices lasting more than 6 months when the car becomes available.

On that note, may talk to my dealer about what it would take to get on the waiting list for the new M3

That would be YOUR wish.... he already said he can't have the 4 seats, as he has 4 kids PLUS himself. it's either M5 or M3 later down the road.

I agree that the M6 would prob. be the best, however, in his case, I'd take the M5. Keep it for a few years, and then seeing how the M3 is and then look into it. I don't think either machine will be a bad one at ALL!! Sure the M5 is a tad heavier than the M3 will be, but unless you plan to track the car, you won't really have any huge problems to deal with.

It's a choice indeed.

I think I would go with the M5 now though. I couldn't really wait 3 years (unless you have no reason to get rid of your current E46...)

Just drove the new M5 at an invitation drive day put on by our local dealers. Geoff Brabham took us around the track for some serious fun.

It's an awesome car!

However, we also drove a 645 a 545 a 7 and last but not least, an M3 for back to back comparisons with the M5. The M5 down the straight accelerates brutaly with head slamming gear changes in full M mode. But when it came to the corners, it felt big and heavy. When we swithced to the M3 it was like going from a steak knife to a scalpel.

The M3 shrieks like a demented banshee, whereas the M5 growls deeply (sounds like a diesel on idle). The M3 has an insane urgency whereas the M5 steadily flexes it muscles. The M3 completes a corner like some edgy slot car, whereas the M5 reminds you how hard good tyres can work against bulk.

On any race track with tight corners, the E46 M3 kills the new M5. On a track with lots of long straights and large radius corners the M5 will steadily pull away from the M3.

When it was over, and as I walked towards my parked E46 M3, I looked at it with greatly renewed affection and respect. I now know that until the new M3 arrives, I already drive the best BMW money can buy.

It did get me thinking - When the new E90 V8 M3 arrives it is definetly going to be a better car than the M5 (for a true rev head)

So the dilema is solved - I AM GOING TO WAIT FOR THE SUPERIOR CAR - M3.

All I can say is that ACS better come out with an awsome bodykit for the new M5 or else the M6 and the M3 will be the ones to get. The M5 front end is just not the aggressive and sporty looking
