View Full Version : US police car v E30 M3 vdo
mustang Mon, May-02-2005, 09:16:59 AM You guys have probably seen this video. You notice when the announcer guy says "When the BMW guns it's 240hp engine, the Comaro answers with 350hp".... er yeah... but a few points he forgot to mention:
1. The M3 is about 15-20 years old and produce 240hp. The Camaro has only been out for a whort while and gets 350hp.
2. See how well the M3 handles (even driven by a 15 yr old)?
3. Supercharded vehicle does 0-60 in 5.7s? I know the M3 isn't supercharged and I didn't think the Camaro was either... wtf's he on about?
Amyhow, goes to show how BMW from 20 years back gives the Camaro (with > 100hp more) a hard time! :agree:
Oh and in the end, does the bmw really break down? Maybe it just ran outta gas. :bs:

gobuffs Mon, May-02-2005, 11:43:24 AM Very old video.
I would guess (read: have no proof) that that car was fairly stock motorwise so it had 192 hp, not 240.
pluckydks Mon, May-02-2005, 01:56:11 PM the announcer dude is just stupid
Evolution Mon, May-02-2005, 11:50:33 PM I love that video, Remember when I first saw it, I kept on watching it over and over again lol...
That dude also states the M3 is *supercharged* :|
DaBean Tue, May-03-2005, 12:08:49 AM "the supercharged vehicles goes from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds"
supercharged my ASSS
"The pursuing officer can barely stop in time"
dammn straight!!! Go M3!!
"if he can learn one thing from this chase... (well, not car control... not avoiding officers... not high speed stability... ummm uuhhh...) ... he should stop for police officers"
lmao (I'm not saying he did a good thing.. that was wreckless... but the officer was like ... uummm something to learn... nope, well, stop before you get screwed over: DUH!)
Oldie but goodie!!
Grimm333 Tue, May-03-2005, 12:36:13 AM repost.
speedn_j Fri, May-13-2005, 07:47:59 AM that was awsome m3 owned all. .. i hate those shows there're always bias and ignorant
sleeks Fri, May-13-2005, 03:43:00 PM An LT1 does not have 350hp. Actually, no camaro LT1 or the even better LS1 had 350hp from the factory. I know the guy says its chipped, but chips don't really do a lot for those motors. The LT1 in 1997 (last year in Camaros) was rated at 289 HP.
Evolution Sat, May-14-2005, 01:25:55 PM 289HP from the factory, But aint Police cars modded some what for high speed chaces?

Thull Sat, May-14-2005, 11:58:40 PM My GTO came with 350 hp
Now it has 400 :P
The Camaro SS had around 325hp, I wouldn't be surprised if the police edition had a few extra
KILO15 Sun, May-15-2005, 12:09:28 AM The FHP has V12 camaros.
Bimmer04m3 Sun, May-15-2005, 01:01:33 AM too bad hes not in his 20s

The LT1 SS had 289hp, not 325hp. The guy says they have a chip which maybe gives him another 15-20. GM did not make the police editions with more horsepower than the others. They had beefier suspension pieces and brakes...engine was unchanged.
flabmaster Mon, May-16-2005, 05:07:59 PM If I'm remembering right, last time this was posted someone said that the M3 didn't actually break down - they just edited and replayed the part where he was slowing to make the U-turn. Watch that part and then watch the ending - pumps his brakes once, twice, the police cruiser gets right on his tail and almost can't brake in time, the kid turns. At the end, slow motion: he pumps brakes once, twice, cruiser gets right on his tail, can't brake in time, they cut and say that he was caught. Someone else in another thread had mentioned that it was the kid's uncle's car and that after the kid got away, the uncle turned him in.

but it appears those beefier police package brakes were no match for the M3's setup.

-DaveI wouldn't doubt that they lied about catching him..I live about an hour east of where that happened. Topeka (the Capitol of Kansas) is in Shawnee County

Hard to say because I don't think the officer was driving in a way that could show who had better brakes. The Police officer was trying to close the gap, so of course he was braking later. I'm not defending the camaro, just pointing out that the situation is not one to compare braking ability. My guess would be the lighter BMW would brake better, but I don't have any specs on it.

I remember one part of the clip where the kid slammed on his brakes and the cop had to swerve to miss him because he couldn't stop fast enough..he didn't close the gap, he passed the kid..(in the one part I'm talking about)
mustang Mon, May-16-2005, 08:45:30 PM I hate tv ppl for leaning on huge bias and then lying about the damn thing. That's why UNofficial videos are better than the official ones. I was watching Gumball 3000 a few days ago and they dont show anything at all. You check the video-downloads from the Net and they show a whole bunch of cars getting away from the cops. That sucks - understandable (coz majority of ppl out there are anti-speeding a-wipes - but still understandable. :chair:
