Hi all,

I bought an e39 M5 front bumper off ebay that had two hairline cracks in it. I thought it was easy fixing the plastic bumper but when I went to Lordco, they said otherwise. One guy there told me it was a long process with a whole lot of supplies to fix the plastic (is it ABS?) but I always had in mind that I could just epoxy the cracks, fiberglass the back, bondo the front, and sand away.

Does anyone have experience with fixing bumper cracks? Any help would be appreciated!

Dude:

This IS tough to do and do RIGHT. It is VERY likely that the cracks will reappear as sonn as the weather changes.

You need to know how to repair plastic properly, and then how to apply body filler properly, then you need to know how to apply primer and paint properly.

why would the weather have effects on the bumper? so the best bet is to bring it to a body shop and have them repair it?

Weather can affect the repair if not done correctly as the plastic will expand and contract due to tempature changes, which could re-crack the bumper.

Unless you have done body repair, plastic repair and paint work before, I would take it to a pro to get it done correctly.
