View Full Version : E30 M3 Cat & Muffler
Michelangelo Fri, Apr-01-2005, 12:18:00 AM Hey guys, long long time ago (3 week after I bought my car last year) when I ran on mountain, I accidentally ran over a rock and it struck the cat as well as tore the muffler a bit (I know it was my mistake of judgement, coz I used to drive FC3S and the cat was not as big as Bimmer's, also 2 mufflers hung one side each. So at the moment I figured out I was not driving an FC, it was already too late...). After basically fixed all engine stuffs, now I'm saving money for the cat and muffler. However, I checked Turner Motorsport, the cat costs ~$500, and the least expensive muffler which can be used with cat is even more than $500. So is there any place I can find quality yet inexpensive exhausts for E30 M3. Thanks.

This is an oxymoron, of course. Quality and inexpensive are generally never used in the same sentence. All kidding aside.
A friend with a 89 E30 325is bought the $500 cat from BMP about 2 years ago, and last week his car failed to pass smog. The shop says he needs a new cat. Bummer. Of course, I have to say I live in California which has some of the most stringent smog testing regulations in the country. I highly recommend the $795 stainless center section that VSR sells. It comes with quality cats, and has excellent build quality. Dyno proven power to boot.

I put a link to it in my post. It stands for Vintage Sports Racing.
Michelangelo Tue, Apr-05-2005, 03:40:21 PM Thanks. But how loud is that cat without resonator? You know S14 is not a quiet motor... (just curious, are you still using Toyo tires? What model and size do you have?)

Not quiet, especially with Borla. Yes, I still use Toyo RA-1's. 235/40/17
Michelangelo Wed, Apr-06-2005, 02:16:11 AM I see. Seems I gotta save more money for that cat.
(RA-1... 40 tread wear, do you really drive your car on road, especially in rainy days? I'm thinking T1-S instead.)

I do drive it on road, but it isn't my daily driver. I have a 740i Sport for commute duties. The E30 is just for the occasional weekend drive or track day. The rest of the time she stays covered up in the garage, or getting something new put on at the shop.
Surprisingly the RA-1's are excellent in wet conditions, in fact, they are the spec tire (rain or shine) for many race series. You can't beat them for miles of smiles. Great grip and they wear very well.
