i just ordered a M3 coupe w/ navi and after reading the accessory catalog I noticed that the iPod connectivity is not compatible with those cars with Navi's.... my dealer didn't tell me this, in fact, they said I can get either the ipod kit or Sirius satellite radio... not both....

Being that my car has navi, does that mean I CANT get the ipod kit? Why is that? Is there ANY way I can get the Ipod kit with my car???

I hope I can AT LEAST still get Sirius.... i'd ideally like to have both...

Thoughts????

The OEM Ipod adaptor works with the sat nav. I went through this same thing on the ZCP I ordered last month. I decided to go with the Denison icelink instead. Do a search there are several threads on this subject.

I have an '03 with Nav. I have Sirius and Ice Link and it is awesome. They work great. Definitely get Ice Link and pass on the OEM iPod adapter.

One note: You can't have a CD Changer and Ice Link. The Sirius reciever plugs into the CD Changer cable in the trunk. The Ice Link then connects to the Sirius reciever with 1 cable. The Ice Link replaces the CD Changer.

I installed both myself in less than 2 hours. The longest part is just running the Ice Link wire to the front of the car. I keep the iPod in the center arm rest.

so wait... should i get the sirius installed by the dealer and do the icelink myself? or can i purchase the sirius module aftermarket and save some bucks.

what is required to run the icelink cable to the front of the car? all i've been reading says u gotta keep the ipod in the trunk. i'm not exactly a DIY person, but i'd be willing to try on the account i dont blow up my car....

The trunk interface kit picks up the signal from the trunk area, I never recommend leaving the iPod in the trunk for a number of reasons.

This thread will have the instructions needed for the install: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?p=702004#post702004

You can install both yourself. They are pretty easy. Sirius installs in less than 30 minutes - very easy. Ice Link is very simple to set up, it just take a few minutes to run the cable to the front. I ran mine under the rear seat and along the drive shaft "hump" in the back seat. There is a channel under the carpet and padding. I ran a straightened coat hanger through the channel, then duck taped the Ice Link cable to the hanger and pulled it through. It takes a little patience but it works. I found it easier to pull up on the carpet and pad a little bit to help get the hanger through.

Good luck - it is very fullfilling to do it yourself!
