No....2005 is the last year for the E46. My dealership told me that the E90 M3 coupe is coming out in 2007 and the E90 M3 vert is coming out in 2008.

Is this what other people have heard?

My dealer doesn't know how to launch an SMG. I wouldn't think twice about calling him for information on the next generation 3 or ///M series.

It's all mixed up colima. No one is really sure yet.

We just have to wait 'till BMW gives us the official word.

That's what they told me...I originally was going to order mine in May of 2005, but then it was found out that they are going out of production in Germany around March. I def. did not want to chance missing the last year of the E46!

The launch of the new M3(E90) generally comes out 1 year after the new 3 series is launched, which would make sense. So if the new 3 series is coming out for 2006, the the M3 E90 coupe will be 2007 and the M3 E90 vert will be 2008.

Put it this way, there is now no way that BMW will wait 2 years or more to release the E90M3. As I have always suggested the new M should hit the streets Q4 06 / Q1 07.

That would be great if they didn't wait...but the E36 M3 ended in 1999 and the E46 came out in 2001...so maybe they are following the same pattern? Who knows....lol

I don't care if they take their sweet time as long as they do a good job on it. It would seriously hurt BMW's reputation if the E90 had as many issues as the E46. If the engine is going to go kaboom, make sure it is during the testing phase!!!

By the way, why is it called the E90 instead of th E56? Is there a rhyme or reason to their numbers?

Well with the lads at AMG, Porsche & AUDI not wasting anytime bringing out there oven hot versions, I think BMW will come to the challenge a lot earlier than usual. All the companies are find there is more BLING to be made if they bring these models out earlier and offer hotter versions later on. Im 100% sure the CSL was to test this theory.

This is from Roundel. Looks like the E46M3 will still be available for maybe 2 more years! I usually change cars every 1 1/2 to 2 years and was looking forward to an E90M3. Looks like I may have to change plans now.

"Before we prematurely bury the current E46 3 Series model, hear this: The execution has been postponed----as is the BMW habit----for convertible, coupe, and M3 models of the E46 range. Afterlife also applies to the 3 Series wagon, but that five-door does not appeal to enough Americans to lure BMW NA's statistical suits into importation anyway.

The bad news is that we are at least two years away from new 3 Series coupes and convertibles, and more likely three years for the suspected V8 M3. So BMW intends to keep the existing six-cylinder E46 Mwarriors refreshed with items like the recent CSL upgrade announcements."

That is about the best news I've heard so far regarding the E46 M3!

In fact, this issue gets brought up so often, last time I think it was agreed that June 2006 was the last date. So, there'll be an E46 M3 at least thru the first half of 2006, good news for those of us still waiting to get one.

My dealer said he didn't know, but thinks it'll be orderable until mid-2006. He's been doing this a long time and he's been pretty reliable for info before.

I definitely like the styling of the E46 much better than the E90, but the prospect of a 400HP V8 is pretty convincing.

BTW: Anybody know what "the recent CSL upgrade announcements" is/was????

I assumed it referred to the ZCP Competition Package already in production. Am I wrong?

Don't forget the $70K price tag that will accompany the new M3. In comparison, the $55K (semi-loaded) E46 will look like a bargain. World class car and still not out of reach if you really want one.

I think the new price may be a problem. One reason the e46 M3 is so popular is that while hardly inexpensive, it is relatively affordable and a pretty good performance value (near Porsche performance for a fraction of the price). Once you get into $70k range (and that's for the coupe; the convertible will be $7-10k more, probably), you're talking very high end. When the e39 M5 was released, its base price was $70k and loaded 7 series were in about the same range. Even adjusting for inflation that's a lot.

Test drove an 05 M3 at Classic BMW in Dallas yesterday. Salesman and Manager both "assured" me that there will be an 06 M3! Who knows.

i have a better idea for BMW...

take the current e46 M3 and stick a 400HP V8 under the hood and not mess with the current exterior lines!!! maybe tweak the interior a bit...but even then, i can't see how you can really make the interior better. i bet the new e90 M3 will lose that "racecar" look to it and the interior will be all artsy. i love the subtle power-bulge, oval rearview mirror, and badass front end.

the e90 m3 will come out in 2008. here's my rationale:

e46 sedan released - 1999
e46 coupe released - 2000
e46 m3 released - 2001

e90 sedan released - 2006
e90 coupe released - 2007
e90 m3 released - 2008

I like your rationale and believe BMW released comp pack to allow people's juices flow for another 1 1/2 years and not just 6 months.
