I saw this from bimmer forums. Are these really the wheels that come with the competition package? If so, man what a deal! Everyone will have these rims soon!

I second that...I have a set of SSR-GT3's, but it would be nice to have a second set of wheels. Plus that is an awesome deal.

Look the same. Fronts are 1/2" narrower than CSL Personally, I'd spend the extra grand on the forged RAC Monolites RG4s that are wider, lighter, stronger and better looking.

mmmpowr
Fri, Jan-21-2005, 04:59:51 AM
well, the rear is actually a CSL wheel, but the front is not, 8" vs 8.5". Warning, these wheels are not forged as bmwna claims, because the CSL wheels were never forged. Which is why they are cheaper than the regular oem 19's, which are forged.

ZCP/Club Sport Wheel:
Front 8JX19
PN: 36 11 2 282 895
Rear 9.5JX19
PN: 36 11 2 282 999

CSL Wheel:
Front 8.5JX19
PN: 36 11 2 282 650
Rear 9.5JX19

Are the competition csl rims forged or cast?

Army Chief
Fri, Jan-21-2005, 07:37:16 AM
Both wheels are made by BBS using a "spin casting" technique. They are very similar, but as has been observed, not identical.

Would you need spacer on the front if you were to lower your car? My car with oem 19's looked horrible when I lowered my car. Front wheels weren't offset out enough. With an 8 inch wheel up front, sounds like these wheels are going to have the same problem.

The RG4's are not lighter, they weigh the same. As far as stronger...maybe. Wider yes. Look better, subjective...but I think they look slightly worse.

For $1800-1900 these aren't bad. Add some not-so expensive tires for $800 its not a bad setup. My only concern would be possible spacers for the fronts.

I am still going to purchase a set of OEM CSL wheels. I prefer the extra .5 on the front. I don't like the look of the Monolites it's something about the color that just aint right and they don't look as fluid on the car as the OEM BMW wheels. I could care less whether they are lighter or not. Just my opinion.

I like 'em, a lot, they have a very modern design, that compliments the M3's shape very well, in my opinion.

Having said that, these CSL/ZCP wheels are great looking too, a little more 'old school' in design, but very sharp.

Honestly, it all comes down to preference...

One other item thats over looked is offset. RG4's have the most aggressive offset pushing the wheels to the utmost edge of the car. The RG4's are about 1lb lighter than the CSL wheel according to Shep and ChuckD who sell the RG4's. What sold me on the RG4's is the offset and the added width. Not to mention G-d Forbid you smash a CSL wheel it could be hard to replace. Dave

I believe my wholesaler can get them however, he'll charge retail pricing from whatever it is on Tire Rack + mounting & balancing + the extra shipping and handling fee due to weight.

In the end, you would save more money if you ordered the wheels directly from TR and had a 3rd party tire shop mount & balance the tires & wheels.

I am interested in a set of the Velocity Replicas. I spoke with him directly on E46 about the M3 fitment.. Needs to fill a hefty order to be able to do the rear M3 fitment (front in ET40 like getting for non-M will stay the same). JLevi is also interested in selling them as well, so I think there will be enough interest and sales for the rear fitment to be made.

As long as they actually get made in M3 fitment at the price mentioned, then I'll be happy. Throw me on that list.

Also need to see some quality straight on side shots of these in an outdoor environment during the day... to get a good idea of the finish in natural light.

I personally have a hard time getting a feel for the finish baased on Peter's pics. They seem more like the RG4 finish (which I find a little bland) then the CSL/ZCP finish, but it might be the interior lighting effecting it.

Correct, I'm not providing much information because I don't want to build the members up, and then get some bad news regarding the wheels. Supposedly the offsets for the wheels will probably be really close to the OEM stock offset, supposedly around +/-3mm offset in both the front & rears.

Once, I get them I'll probably post around 10 - 15 pictures of the wheels & also take pic requests - lets say if somebody wants to see the exact measurement of the lug holes, I'll get a tape measure and put it against the holes and snap a picture of it.

Dave - Regarding weight, according to Chuck's posts on Roadfly, as well as my scale (My buddy Peter has the RG-4's awaiting install on his car)...they weigh almost exactly the same:

ChuckD on 2004-07-07 at 18:07:38

Message: "But Bekkers.Com lists them (CSL wheels) as 22.5lbs for the front and 23 pounds for the rear. Our weigh approximatly the same according to my scale at home."

On my scale, the CSL's were a hair lighter...weighing in at 22 lbs front and 22.8 rear. The RG-4's weighed 22.4 front and 23.2 rear.

I do appreciate their offset though.

that these replica wheels will be made via the traditional "cast" method while the ZCP wheels are made using the "spun cast" method?

also, if one of these wheels is damaged, how easy would it be to get a replacement in the future?

If a wheel is damaged, as long as it is available it can be replaceable, however once the wheels are released, I'll go over the warranty aspects of the wheels.

Anthony, the price for the wheels are $1,100 shipped to your front doorstep. However, wheels probably won't be available till the beginning of summer.

It has been said that there is/are slight difference between the Competition and the CSL wheels. Besides the width, what is different?

...well, around 100g per wheel according to some info in this board. But then, there is also some info saying that the rear wheel of the ZCP has exactly the same part number as the CSL rear's.

So, you can make your own mind up with this contradiction. :banghead:

Yes sir, that'll be the correct setup for the tire dimensions. I'll have a list of FAQ's once I make the official line up for the wheels. Q's such as (tire size, weight, offset, fabrication, etc etc etc). :peace:

As for the BBK clearance, there is a good chance it won't clear. I was talking to my wholesaler last wk, and he said that depending on which BBK company you go with, you can get a measurement card from them, and you can place the card on the inner side of the wheel, to see whether or not it will clear. You might want to check with Brembo, StopTech, UUC, to see if they have this available.

They're not since they are replica wheels. Are you referring to the CSL wheels or OEM 19in wheels?
