Hey everyone!

I just picked up my 02 M3 last night. I took it to a local resturaunt with a friend, came out and someone stole my side vent on the drivers side!!! Do things like this happen often with these cars? I mean I only had the car about 2 1/2 hours before something was stolen. It wasn't a bad neighborhood or anything...just not the greatest luck I guess!

Thanks,
Mandi

I can't imagine a M3 owner being cheesy enough to steal a side-vent from another M3. But who knows I guess....

Are there any scratches indicating theft?
Possible that the previous owner had waxed it prior to sale and had removed parts to avoid wax build up in crevace areas...never snapped it back in properly. ??? Just a thought.

Haha, that's the first thing I said to! I figure it was either another M3 owner that needed one, or a Civic owner that thinks they drive a M!

If it fell off I would have been happier than knowing it got stolen. The only reason I know is because it was on before I went in. I was looking at my new car in the parking lot for a little bit. If not I would have assumed it just fell off, like you said.

Because it's Connecticut. In New Jersey, they would've stolen both.

In Jersey City, NJ the car would be gone.

Yes if you take the car out prepare to have it vandalized. :banghead:
I never had a car as much as a target as my E36 ///M. Mirrors knocked off at a bar egged twice at home intentional door dings etc. :soapbox:

Congrat on the car though. You have both the E36 and E46 ///M3's all you need now is an E30

That really sucks. Sorry to hear about it. I can't imagine it's a very expensive part to replace, though...probably less than the insurance deductable...

So, the side vents just pop out? I haven't tried to pull them too much but I'd like to take them out to clean the car better.

A credit card will do...

the side grills take 15 seconds to remove.

its just bad luck. just go to the dealer and say they fell out when you were driving and demand another ;)

Why is it that M's just get this all the time, or at least what i have read? Its just an M3? Its close to a 911 and CLK55 (of course not exactly) in price, yet do people break 911's or AMG's?

Yeah, I guess I just have no luck. I prob shouldn't have been driving it that night anyway since there was sand on the road so I guess I'm at fault as well...I am going to call the dealer today and see if they will replace it for free. Yeah, I know, I'm dreaming!

The BMW part # is 51 13 2 697 607 and the list is $52.50. I would suggest a tube of superglue to aid in your installation and prevention of easy future theft  Chris

go to the dealer and get it repaired under warranty...say it flew off on the highway.

I had my side skirts stolen after about a month of when i bought it. It was a busy parking lot also. I ended up replacing the rivits in on my new side skirts with ones with star screws. Hopefullly they will slow down the thieves. I've seen M3's without the grills parked around, so i bet it's a common thing stolen.
