I want to build a new subwoofer enclosure for my E46 trunk for two 10inch subs. I want to place the box as close to the rear seat as possible. The question is, should I face the subs toward the front or the rear of the car?
Has anyone else done this, if so any pics would be great.

rule of thumb: subs should fired towards the rear of the trunk for best bass reproduction. but every car if differnt. build a dummy box and play around with the orientation until you find the sweet spot.

Yeah.. typically subs sound better firing backwards. You can also remove any rear speakers to allow the bass to port into the cabin more. Here is a couple pics of an install I did on an E46.

The install looks nice, but none of the installs on here apply to my car or torresmd's car. Any install pic I have seen has been for a coupe, and it is much easier to do an install in the coupe and have it sound good than in the convertible. There is very limited space in the vert...you can only build a box around 10.25" tall to squeeze under the black piece that the top sits in. Thus, you are limited to a 10" sub which is fine with me since 10" is what I prefer. However, the vert has a metal framework/wall behind the back seats, and this cancels a lot of the bass. It would be nice if someone has some pics of an install for a vert...

I don't understand why people don't just IB an IDMAX - it seems as if the vert is perfect for that kind of installation if memory serves

OK I have made a new sealed box that houses 2 10's and managed to fit it into my vert trunk. I will be posting pics as soon as my wife gets back in town with the digital camera. The sound is great!

Hey did you happen to find the thread that you were saying tells how to disable the speed sensitive volume?

I was unable to find it. Not sure where I was reading about it, but it was a long time ago. Might have to resort to the dealer. I'll keep checking around. If I come up with anything I'll let you know.

Reply. as long as you dont have the nav system you need to hold down the music note for like 3 seconds then you will have on your display the speed secsitive controls.
