View Full Version : Quick Question on Brembo BBK:
NoSoup4U Thu, Oct-21-2004, 12:53:40 PM What type of pads do I need to fit the front of the 14" BBK? Can I just use any pads that say they will work for the E46 M3, or do I need to be careful?
I need them ASAP if any vendor has some in stock ...
I am looking at either the bobcats or the porterfields that d.liaw recommended. Any experience with the bobcats?
These pads are going to be used for daily driving and autocross.
Question re: dedicated track pads, do I need to get all FOUR, or just the fronts?
Thanks!
p.s. -D.Liaw -- sent an email, did you receive it?
jonam Thu, Oct-21-2004, 02:51:49 PM I would recommend HP+(more dust and slightly corrosive) or HPS for street/autocross. No experience with Bobcat, but Panther+ was good pad for double duty at street and track(upto C-B group).
For the full race pads, it depends the torque of the front pads and how much heat generated in the rear. Usually if one goes with full race pads in the front (PFC97(or 01) or Hawk HT10 I would recommend), upgrade the rear to semi-race pads such as HP+ or Axxis Ultimate.
Dan Law Thu, Oct-21-2004, 06:35:42 PM Just to avoid confusion; I did not recommend these pads.
Were I to recommend pads, it would be Pagid RS14 Carbon Blacks.
That stated, pads are a VERY personal thing - even more so than suspension - and reasonable, even equally talented, folks will disagree dependent on the bite, torque and release characteristics they desire....

FB Thu, Oct-21-2004, 06:59:14 PM can anyone recommend a good low-dust street pad?
I've got the pads that came with my Brembo 355mm setup and the dust problem is ridiculous!
any info is greatly appreciated!
Dan Law Thu, Oct-21-2004, 07:10:05 PM May I suggest that friction and dusting usually are inextricably associated.
That stated, Brembos come with Ferodo - a good pad but dusty.
Assuming you're just looking for a street pad maybe you should try Axxis - also less expensive if not a good high performance pad as the Ferodo.

Wasn't that you tailgating me on the track? :D
How are you, buddy! Call me sometime!
Fly'n DuthhMan Sat, Oct-30-2004, 03:03:44 AM I agree with Dan, the Hawk HPS and Hp+ pads were good pads in the 80's, but its 2004 now. Don't get me wrong they work okay, and are low dust, but the pedal feels like your stepping in soft dog poo. Not bite. Good thing about Hawk is their pads are inexpensive.
I ran the Pagid's Black and the Pagid Blues. These pads feel okay, but still not satisfied, I won't use these again. I'll try the pagid orange, if I don't like them I am writing Pagid off completely, there pads are way too expensive for how they perform. I think the Pagids are organic, which maybe why I don't like the feel?
BTW There are some people that speculate that the pad compound used in the Pagid Blue and the Black RS14 is the SAME. The Blacks are made by a different division of Pagid, and they share compounds with the race division. Again, this is second hand info from a Pagid dealer, but I couldn't tell the difference between the Blues and the Blacks. If there is a difference its marginal.
I have heard good things about EBC Green and Red pads. And I like my Performance Friction and the Hawk Blues are awesome on the track, but hard on rotors.
Dan is also correct in that pad choice is 50%+ personal preference.
Just to avoid confusion; I did not recommend these pads.

It is available in Hawk HPS as part number HB193F.670.
If the Brembo kit is sourced by the retailer from Race Technologies, it comes loaded with Hawk HPS pads. BMW owners are generally unhappy about dust and brake judder and the Hawk HPS has been better in both regards. I think that kits coming from Tire Rack are loaded with Ferodo pads.
Personally, I prefer the Pagid RS421 Blue in that caliper for better pedal feel, but the dust will drive you crazy.
