View Full Version : How was your M3's weekend, anything like this?

Mon, Oct-18-2004, 03:24:16 PM
Thanks to mikey for the pictures. Incredible camera he's using. If you guys ever have a chance to attend a Ferrari Track event: DO IT. Catered food, ferrari challenge cars, just well run ... and a bunch of GREAT guys. RICH guys .. but great guys.

In VA, you pay personal property tax on your vehicles. In fairfax county, that is 4.5% EACH YEAR you pay. One guy I was talking to was telling me he brought out his ferrari that he bought last week. He said that he pays over $65K in tax each year on the vehicles he owns. I asked if he owned an Enzo, he said not yet, he has not purchased the requisite number of ferrari's to get on the wait list. But, with his most recent purchase, he should be able to get on there. :bugeye: You guys think you have money, these guys HAVE money.

In the picture, GT3 or the white turbo in the rear ... don't know what type of ferrari behind me. Great track day. Believe it or not, we were able to give passengers a ride "AT SPEED" :bugeye: ... made a couple people queasy. I was on S03's ... they handle well. Track pressures 42f/43r. That seemed to work for me.

Honestly, the BMW's at this event were faster than most of the group cars. Not saying that either to feel egotistical, the BMW's just were overall faster. Fastest car would be a sick yellow Z06 in our group ... second fastest is probably the turbo X50 silver porsche, and third would be Nick's (nick325ixt). Our group is the solo group. Nick, Sean, silver turbo guy, only people that passed me. So, not bad for being on street tires.

They would hit about 145 mph on the straight. I would be hitting about 140 mph ... We were carrying some speed. I think Nick was getting 1:30 lap times ... :bugeye:

Yes, we passed these yellow ferrari challenge cars. They were kind of pissed  Sean's sick Z06 in the background, I think that was the CLK 55 AMG .. wicked sounding GT-350. Yup, we could pass him -- he pointed me by on the straight and floored it .. I was like WTF ... that car was fast as crap on the straights ...

Here's landshark's sweet CSL-type.

This picture below goes to show you -- DRIVER's SKILL IS PARAMOUNT E36 M3/4 power! This guy's a pretty damn good driver!

This car needs no introduction ...

That engine costs more than our cars are worth :bugeye:

These guys must be poor ... probably McDonald's workers ...:ha:

Anyone recognize this car from the ALMS series? Retired now of course.

Sweet cars all around ..

Hey.. that yellow M3 looks fimilar! ;)

Mon, Oct-18-2004, 03:38:52 PM
I lost my driver's side M3 grill somehow, it must have popped off from the g-forces I was generating :bugeye: :ha:

Mon, Oct-18-2004, 04:13:44 PM
the F40 should have been called the "Enzo" - looks like you all had a blast!

Mon, Oct-18-2004, 04:19:28 PM
Dang... sounds like it was a blast!!! Where was this event held at!?

You said it was a Ferrari event - just curious as to why there were Porsches, Vettes, Bimmers....

Mon, Oct-18-2004, 04:42:24 PM
The Turbo was a LOT slower than I was. Except, of course, that I couldn't pass him in the straights. I was about to pit after five laps glued to his ass when they threw the checkered. He was 25-30MPH slower in turn 4 in particular.

And I was about to pass the F40 when that bastard pitted. I was pissed off, as I only needed one more lap to get right up on him.

Now, that's what I call a track day. Great cars and nice pics.

Tue, Oct-19-2004, 08:00:39 AM
Fantastic pics, must have been the best day out there. Great to get out and thrash your car around in the company of likeminded company....

Tue, Oct-19-2004, 10:21:25 AM
Great pics! I know you have more. I want to see some M3's chasing down the high priced exotics.

Also remember, that just because they've got lots of money, don't mean they know how to drive. It is good to see them out there racing with the "common folk".

Tue, Oct-19-2004, 01:25:31 PM
Dang. Amazing pics. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Funny about the f40's engine price, though it was a great engine then the new 430s natural V8 cranks out more power then the 40's turbo. Guess engine technology has come a long way.

Seeing this picture, it's pretty orgasmic. I've never seen one in person. Seeing it in pictures does not do it justice!!

Bad things DO happen ... BEFORE

AFTER ......

E30 M3 power baby!!!

But on the straight, can't hang with the GT3 :( ... it's okay ... he catches him in the TALENT section!

Again, importance of driver skills illustrated. My friend Andy in his "VTEC, shyt dat's fast" prelude!!!

A little three wheeling action going on ...

Picture showing I'm missing the side M3 grill ... no idea where it is ...

What Ferrari owners really think ...

Cool pics. Definitely some beautiful cars out there that weekend.

Just one thing, the white car is not a GT3. It's a regular old C2 like mine. Porsche does sell the aerokit as an option on the C2/C4 or as an afterdelivery tequipment kit. But putting the wing on does not make your car as wonderful as a GT3. Believe me, I would have done it by now. :)

There were a couple of really good Ferrari drivers, actually. And then there were some that were taking it very, very easy. I think I even passed a few myself.

I guess if I had a Ferrari I'm not sure I'd be all that concerned about trying to prove my car is better than a Porsche or BMW any way. I'm sure most of those guys could write a check for a Z06 any day of the week if they wanted to. And they know it. They probably just love Ferraris. I can understand that.

I think you really misinterpreted my statements ... there was a white GT3 in blue group and a white C2. None of us were out there trying to prove anything.

We were just trying to have as much fun in our group as possible, the M3's, Z06, etc ... just following each other since we are friends. We were oblivious to the Ferrari's b/c we also do not want to hit them  ... if you want to see crazy driving, since you have a porsche, you've probably been to a schattenbaum PCA event ....

Their events are pretty crazy ... three side by side coming out of turn 10, three going into turn one, it felt like W2W ... kind of insane for an HPDE. Passing in the chute, etc.

Sorry, what I meant to say is that the white 996 passing the E30 M3 in the picture earlier is actally a C2. Not that it's a big deal. I was just pointing it out.

If you read my comments, I wasn't implying that all the non-ferrari drivers were driving their cars 10/10th either. I know almost everyone out there was trying to preserve their ride home. I'm just saying that the Ferrari drivers seemed particularly laid back either because their cars are so expensive or because they were just out there having fun at their own pace. Just an observation. I even passed a 360 challenge car two or three times I think. Now if you're driving a 360 challenge and you get passed by a very average driver in a regular 996, you obviously aren't even trying to drive more than 7/10ths.

It's all fun. And I understand the trash-talking is part of it, too. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I'm sorry if it came across that way.

Now you weren't trying to say that people who drive r-comps are doing so because they have something to prove, were you? (just kidding) :peace:

Fri, Oct-29-2004, 06:40:44 PM
ahh .. you needed to listen to what the Ferrari guys were talking about. One guy came up to me and said he liked the color and the car. We got to talking and then he tells me he pays over $70K PER YEAR in VA property tax on his vehicles. In fairfax county, that's 4.5% a year, which means he has some expensive vehicles.

He said he brings out his 360 because he doesn't mind beating on it, which made me wonder about his other vehicles ...

Other conversations were like ... "Look at that 360 John ..." "Yeah, why on earth would you spend $170K for a POS when for another $100K, you can get a decent car ..."

Gee ... just spend another $100K ... I have that in the car ... let me go and get it ... :eek2: ;)
