This is very good link, thanks. I have always wanted to see how this could be done. However, wonder how much cost will it be for buying all the parts. I would assume it is significantly more than the $2k this person paid on the ebay.

Is your reseller an individual or a store that could possibly carry more? You have a great DYI instruction on that link. Thanks for sharing and hopefully the seller have more to sell.

Hi

It is an individual that resells these kits on eBay. Search eBay for postgolf and send him an email for more info.

Hey M3, I tried to email your seller but he does not respond. I am thinking about picking one up from a guy in Germany but I am a little apprehensive about wiring $2,000 overseas without any kind of protection. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey M3, I tried to email your seller but he does not respond. I am thinking about picking one up from a guy in Germany but I am a little apprehensive about wiring $2,000 overseas without any kind of protection. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem with the this type of transaction is basically how confortable you could be with sending money like this without any guarantee that you are going to see the kit. Then you could have the problem of claiming any refund or assistance in case something goes wrong if actually you do receive the kit.

The radio tuner for sure will not be US version, it will be an European Professional tuner. The frequencies of this tuner are slightly different from the US FM band, tuning AM stations will not be possible. The RDS system database will be all different from the US (as in a R&B station shown as VARIED). This tuner cannot be changed in area using the Service Mode like you can in your current Business CD, it is fixed to the Europe area. Mine was replaced by the seller at no cost, but then again I have to file a claim in PayPal to get his attention to this issue. An US tuner is around $450.00.

What I would do is buy the components one at a time, that way you can cut the risk and still be on budget. Two parts are best to buy brand new: the DVD computer/GPS and the wiring harness. The DVD computer is $750.00 in www.bimmernav.com and the wiring harness here and there shows up in eBay Germany for some $300.00 shipped to the USA, with PayPal accepted. You can always buy the GPS antenna and cable in your dealer for some $60.00; if your car have Assist, there is a GPS antenna already installed, only a new cable is needed.

Some used Business tuners show up in eBay USA for some $100.00 (brand new is $450.00 as said before). The Monitor/CD Player in 16:9 is the difficult one to find used in good condition, but they do show up especially on eBay Germany; is better to gamble $500.00 for one than $2000.00 for a kit, if you think about it.

Sorry if I cannot help you further, that's all I can think of... good luck. :peace:

Hi M3Tech, wil you be able to tell me if its possible to change from 4:3 screen to the bigger 14:9 on the nav system. If so do i need to get any other wires or accessories to fit the screen to the existing nav system. Thanks.

You can do the retrofit. People have upgraded to the 16:9 screen. Mostly, it is taking a part everything. You will need a new wiring harness which is around $300. I have seen the 16:9 screen go for around $400 on ebay. A lot of people will say go aftermarket; but, you can't beat an OEM look and if you resell, most people would love that you went through the trouble. I think you would recoup your money back if you resold the car vs. if you had an aftermarket one.

You can do the upgrade (4:3 to 16:9) without any additional components but the monitor assembly in the E46.
