View Full Version : M3 V Evo7
M333 Sat, Dec-07-2002, 02:29:36 PM hi guys,
as u know (maybe) that i raced the mitsibishi evo6 long time back(i posted everything here).
but now my friend wants to race me with his Evo7! ....we will start from rolling like i did last time (60kmh)
he has an exhaust system, air filter, some wiers, and a boost controller?
what u guys think?
i will post the results once we race!
PS: i know i will kick his butt!
Porshapwr Sat, Dec-07-2002, 02:45:54 PM I wish I could say that you will kick his butt but I'm not sure about that.
The EVO7 is a quick car and if it's modified, ouch.
Either way, it's still based on a compact economy car :D
lowprofile Sat, Dec-07-2002, 04:23:18 PM Go get em!!!! rolling start? what's up guess need to spool his turbo first huh.
astan100 Sat, Dec-07-2002, 04:34:35 PM Tell him you'll race him on the the highway 60+ if he'll race you from 0 to 3 chicks in the car! :D
I bet your "pick up chicks" time is way better than his! Though that large spoiler might trick them into thinking he has a large...

looool man.....
the race is OFF :???: ..... he called me yesterday and said that its off! i asked why, he said that he just changed his mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyways, what can i do or say!
but not to get ur hopes high, my friend has a 99 M5, so i will try to race him whenever he comes back 2 town. i will even try to video tape it if he agrees. will keep u posted
astan100 Tue, Dec-10-2002, 12:56:43 PM He must have read my post and realized that his 0-3 chicks time is 4 years when he buys a new car! :D
I'm kidding, but sorry. I bet lots of people here would have been interested in seeing the results of that race. Those things are balls fast with a super high RPM launch (asssuming they're just extra fast versions of the WRX)
M333 Tue, Dec-10-2002, 01:28:49 PM lool
well they r pretty LIGHT and quick! but i raced an EVO almost a year ago, i beat him and i have posted everything here, just search for the thread.
astan100 Tue, Dec-10-2002, 09:33:27 PM By the way, where are you from that you are racing Evo 7's?
M333 Wed, Dec-11-2002, 09:56:04 AM Midd-East, in the Arabian Gulf!
Bukwheat Wed, Dec-11-2002, 07:47:44 PM Damn....I'd like to know how the EVO VII compares to the M3 (performance wise)....as well as the WRX STi.
Wait a minute.....are you guys in Europe? The EVO VII hasn't been released state wide, yet.
astan100 Wed, Dec-11-2002, 08:46:39 PM see his above post. :D
I'd like to see that race as well though man.
ARC M Power Thu, Dec-12-2002, 01:49:41 PM Oh trust me The Evo VII must be very fast. I drove the Evo V (my friend's) with upgraded turbo, that thing flies and has supreme handling. You can't do that on the M3 (we were driving it on some mountain roads)
M333 Thu, Dec-12-2002, 02:22:24 PM well let me tell u something guys, and i am talking from experience here! (how ever its spelled lol)]
anyways, from rolling, the EVO6 AND EVO7 has no chance with the M3 (both stock)
cuz when i raced the EVO6 i beat him by a very good distance, and the EVO7 is a bit lighter than the EVO6 but the same engine as i heared or an extra 5hp max!
so i dont it can catch up with the M3. but if u add a boost controller and exhaust system and a filter, then it can beat the M3, but then again, it wont be fair cuz it wont be stock!
stock to stock the M3 is the KING!
and for sure we wont be able to perform as the EVO in a mountain road! cuz its ready to be raced in a rally man! what do expect! and its 4wd!!!
but i LUV teh way the M3 power slides
Bukwheat Thu, Dec-12-2002, 04:24:43 PM I heard that the EVO7's Hp numbers were under rated, as well as the WRX STi. Apparently, the STi is listed as having 276Hp, but in actuality, it has 320Hp. Something about Japan's automotive gentleman's agreement. Anyway, with 320Hp and AWD, it may be quite a competitor....although, its styling is definately of personal taste.
ARC M Power Fri, Dec-13-2002, 03:23:25 PM you're right, the actual horsepower is underrated, eversince the production of evolution IV. it has about 320 horsepower.
I know the M3 for fact that it does accelerate really fast, but i doubt stock to stock you can pull on the evo VI. I actually have a vcd of a race, two Lancer vs. two E46 M3, both SMG and Manual, (Lancer w/ manual and automatic) on track, the Evo VII came back like 8 cars ahead of M3 (stock vs. stock). I mean the M3 definitely fast on the straight roads, but you can tell in terms of cornering and handling, the Evo VII was way too superior than you imagined. (well that's why it's got its title for rally) If you talking about highway racing, the best range for the Evo is the midrange, once the turbo kicks in, it stays in the turbos range, never drop below the the points where turbo is off. so from 30 - 100 mph, the evo rules. ON the other hand the M3 has higher top end, if you go higher than 120, the M3 of course will beat the evo, but in general speaking, racing a evo VII on the highway with small amount of traffics, (just normal situation) or even on track, I doubt the M3 will make the evo VII disappear in the mirror. Just think about 320 horsepower with AWD (and the same technologies used for torque distribution as the M3 DSC) In fact, the Mitsubishi was the first one known to invent it for Rally races.
astan100 Fri, Dec-13-2002, 06:32:41 PM See, doesn't the Evo (when you drive the crap out of it) beat the M3 is all respects. Most of the #'s I've seen for 0-60's etc, have been low to mid 4's. I think that you need to do a near full throttle dump to achieve something like that though. The M3 won't get as good a start off the line because it doesn't have that AWD. Also, it beat the M3 is Road and Track's World's Best Handling cars. It got 4th and the M3 got 7th.
Yes, I know magazines are dumb...yaddda yadda yadda, but really, doesn't it seem that the Evo wins all the low to mid end races?
I might be crazy and I've never seen those races in the U.S because we don't have the Evo, but you guys really think that the M3 will beat it regardless of speed?
I wouldn't base anything off that video...completely different drivers and the Evo started in first (because it was a cheaper car probably) and didn't have anyone holding him up...and no Ferrari's messing up everything.
M333 Fri, Dec-13-2002, 07:14:39 PM well, its 285 bhp as the dealers say.
straight line M3 infront
corners EVO

And the M3 is based on ...what? a squishy, poseur, ubiquitous, over-priced luxury compact. So what? The Evo is about as much like a lancer as a an M3 is to a 323. Actually the difference between anEvo and alancer is GREATER than the diff between an M3 and a 323. nuff said.

murdock_ Thu, Feb-26-2004, 09:48:29 PM correct me if im wrong, but i beleive with a mbc, and his boost cranked its gonna be a drivers race
Antwerp Thu, Feb-26-2004, 09:56:24 PM I've heard that you can get 15 hp out of an Sti just by opening up the exhaust. It has 3 Cats, 1 Res & a Muff...
Raffy-D Thu, Feb-26-2004, 09:56:25 PM umm... why was this thread brought back from the dead? it's 2 years old.
Antwerp Thu, Feb-26-2004, 09:57:18 PM Um... It's only 1 year 2 months old... and still relevant.
da3bous Thu, Feb-26-2004, 10:21:31 PM Yes why was this thread ressurcted just to make a comment to start an arguement?!?!?!?

0-60 and in the 1/4 it might be, but 0-110+ the M3 will absolutely KILL the Evo (btw, who only races to 60 or the 1/4 anymore, besides magazines?).
Kevin034 Thu, Feb-26-2004, 10:23:46 PM ROFL, you may want to compare this guy's IP address w/ Marv's.
Marv and I were the only ones digging up threads from 2-4 years back. :D
SOURCE1064 Thu, Feb-26-2004, 10:25:41 PM I have an eclipse which runs the same 4G63 engine as the EVO. If your friend has some mods done to it you'll have some trouble keeping up. I love my M3 but my Eclipse would smoke it.
tomek71 Mon, Mar-01-2004, 07:06:31 PM I've just switched my EVO VII to M3. EVO VII is incredibly fast especially on curved roads. But it is AWD. My EVO had formally 281hp on the engine, but only 200hp on the wheel.
Surely M3 will have more power on the wheel. It should have higher acceleration at the higher speeds.
EVO has very poor clutch (standard clutch). If you tried to start very fast - eg. go to 5500 rpm or sth like that (which is possible for STI any many other cars) you would burn your clutch.
I hope that M3 clutch is better :-_
My EVO is to new to tell anythong more - just 500km - the engine is still blocked od 5500rpm :-( but I can not imagine that it can be a car faster on corners than EVO.
M3Man Mon, Mar-01-2004, 07:07:23 PM Well no matter the outcome of a race. The M3 is better looking, and gets more chicks
Hyolee Mon, Mar-01-2004, 07:13:27 PM be careful out there
bee0818 Mon, Mar-01-2004, 10:19:31 PM be careful out there
Yes, I agree
m3 b0y Mon, Mar-01-2004, 11:10:05 PM it will be very close with the slight edge going to the EVO
make sure you guys do the race from a roll because if it is from a dead stop the EVO will murder you.
tomek71 Tue, Mar-02-2004, 06:45:28 AM I wouldn't be so sure. The clutch in EVO VII is a nightmare (to be exact: was in my EVO). You have to start practically without ANY acceleration. However switches from 1->2 gear, and higher you can make with even 6000rpm.
Generally you must start (gear 1) with EVO very gently but later you can do what you want.
This is obviously about standard clutch.
So my advice is: try race with EVO VII several times starting from 0. If EVO starts fast 3-4 times, the clutch will be dead on the 5-th lights
mpwer Tue, Mar-02-2004, 07:33:37 AM What's the big deal? Why is your friend's panties in a twist over racing? Who cares if he or you loses. It's just ego, unless you are racing for some kind of stakes.
BTW, the STi is wickedly fast (less horsepower, but lighter). It's speed is also limited to 140 mph (or so), so you will definitely pull away at the high end (though only for 14 mph more). It's definitely a driver's race. Of course, if the STi is modified, look out!
Having said that, the STi suffers from some of the same shortfalls of the previous WRX. It lacks feedback through the steering wheel -- when it goes, it goes all over.
