View Full Version : Boosting my E30. What could I do to make the engine handle?

Ok, here's what's going down. I just bought an '88 M3 from my uncle. This was his daily driver for a while, but was pretty well maintained for the most part. My uncle is a mechanic, and he took care of the car, but it then sat for almost a year in his garage. Driving it around, I noticed it needs a new Catalytic converter(where do I find e30 specific cats?), and new Spark plug wires (260 bucks for wires?! really?!?!) I have but one plan w/ my new car. To drop in a turbo, and set it at no more than 14 psi.

I want the engine to handle this boost reliably. I saw from one thread, that they sell rebuild kits for this car? (car has a lil' over 159,000 miles) Where could I find that? I have a friend who's going to be making the turbo kit, but I still need to find a thicker head gasket, and what else other parts would I need to hold this? anyone have any suggestions? All the cars I've owned in the past, and currently own have had a turbo put in ('89 CRX, '88 supra, '01 IS300, '98 Integra). I don't want this E30 to be any different. all help would be appreciated=) thanks

Prepare to spend a lot of money if you want a turbo S14. Parts for these engines are not cheap. At all.

Not to many people turbo that motor. It will be alot of money. Your comparing honda's to a e30 m3. There is a **** load of turbo kits for honda's I don't know if anyone actually makes a kit. Check ebay and turnermotorsports for parts.

The turbo kit itself is no problem. It's the Finding a headgasket that would work better that's hindering us right now. I know a guy who custom fabricates turbos, and he's making mine (great fabricator, made the turbo for my IS300 and my CRX.) We just can't find a thicker head gasket to use. Can't even find a stock one that we could beefen up. any help?

You might want to check Turner, BMP, BavAuto, etc.

Bimmerforums.com has a forced-induction section, wouldn't hurt to look there as well. I know there is one guy working on s/c'ing an e30 m3.
