What is wrong with it? A 2-series "Gran Coupe" is the only way we are ever going to get a small 4-door RWD sedan from BMW again.

Because there would be nothing "Gran" or "Coupe" about it lol. Just poking fun at the silly naming convention is all
cornerjunkie Sat, Apr-28-2012, 12:25:27 AM that thing is all sorts of ugly.
cheu_f50 Sat, Apr-28-2012, 02:10:16 AM at the rate BMW is moving ahead. I will be buying E46 for the rest of my life.

Hmmm... Not sure you know what either of those mean. It's not a definition of a road legal race car. It is quite fitting the 2-Series.
A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a high-performance luxury automobile designed for long-distance driving. The most common format is a two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.
The term derives from the Italian phrase gran turismo, homage to the tradition of the grand tour, used to represent automobiles regarded as grand tourers, able to make long-distance, high-speed journeys in both comfort and style. The English translation is grand touring.
ICE68 Sat, Apr-28-2012, 05:02:02 PM Looks like the Audi A5 coupe

That's the definition for a GT. My understanding of a 'gran coupe' is a MB CLS or Audi A7 'coupe style 4-door sedan'. Its possible I am wrong but the marketing of these vehicles has created this perception for me i guess.
Dewstain Mon, Apr-30-2012, 01:55:12 PM Looks better than the current 1er...

Just a rendering, but I agree. Moving the 1 series to FWD? AHHH.
3 series are now 5s. 5s are boats and 7s are vessels. The 1 series was finally a decent size but a little stumpy or flat-ended. I like it. Making it FWD just goes against anything BMW stands for: Ultimate Driving Machine. Driver's cars... etc.
Not saying the new 3s and 5s don't handle well: they are just massive now. :twocents:

MmMmmGood Tue, May-08-2012, 12:31:49 AM Still reminiscent of the 1m. For some reason these cars remind me of newts, salamanders or frogs. Can't really put my finger on it.

00 XE7EN Wed, May-09-2012, 07:18:56 PM wont making the 1 series fwd cannibalize sales from the Minis?
egebhardt Thu, May-10-2012, 09:14:44 PM Wow. Nice. I like the 2 series rendition.
Looks really good.
The 3s, 5s, and 6s are so bloated, no one can park them anymore.
The E30 was smaller than the 1M. Why do they have to bloat everything every year?

This. I don't believe the whole FWD crap nor that BMW will split the 1 into 1 and 2 it doesn't make any sense for them to do that, ill never believe any of the series splitting or FWD rumors until I physically see on in person. / rant.

That's the only real purpose this car should serve.
Otherwise it's such an irrelevant line of vehicles...might as well make a 1.5er and 1/2er
