Who knows. They are now claiming (as far as I know) that the M3 will be the sedan and the M4 will be the coupe/vert ...

Very interesting:
The V6 engine is supposed to be a brand new unit, not a tuned version of the N54 found in the 335i. The focus will also be on reducing emissions and fuel consumption to a significant level.

I'd like to see the coupe! I'd like to see a hood bulge as it has become a defining characteristic IMO, even if it's not needed.

the F80 is looking to have some nice flared wheel arches. I think this is going to look great as a coupe

So far I like it, but just don't love it. :clueless: It looks tame and domesticated to me. I feel like the E90 sedan was mean looking, tough stance and ready to pounce (more sporty). This one seems meh. We'll see. I'm undecided.

I have the exact opposite view of this. Reminds me of f10 m5. Its a sexy beast!

+1. This car is gonna look sick after all the camo is taken off and she comes out in her production skin. The cosmetic weak point of the E90 has always been, IMO, its ass. The F80 is just plain gorgeous and just look at those fender wells- WAY more aggro than the E90. Thank you BMW and M Division for bringing back a saloon version! With a family on the way, I will need those extra doors!

 I hope and pray this doesn't happen. M4 is what I call my carbine. Oh well, we shall see-- moot point for me since I plan on getting the saloon. In the meantime, I am driving the hell outta my E92 :shiftdriv !!!!!!

I never said anything about obnoxious exhausts, but this car sounds dead quiet, probably because he isn't revving the car, or the fact that the every present turbos in the car, probably have reduced the redline.

IMHO, it doesn't sound as good as, dare I say it the E9X's or even the E46's.

Bet the car will be phenomenal in all categories, but I still want the old BMW M back.

I think it looks nice, I just really don't want them to call the coupe/vert the M4. They would be messing up the whole M3 name. :( Though I guess todays M division isn't the same as the old one.

Those fenders are more like it! This thing looks like it can stuff some serious rubber underneath it :thumbsup2:

You think so? I think it actually sounds pretty loud for a stock car on those racetrack drivebys :clueless:

Especially compared to a stock E36 or E46 M3, which are near dead silent when they go by at WOT if you're any distance away :twocents:

Bingo!

So far, I think this car looks sick. It's difficult for some people to visualize it without the camo, but I can see the flared wheel wells and gorgeous looking rear taillights. It appears to have a very low stance, as well, which I like.

Agreed 100% about the e9X model line. I could have (and would have) bought one long ago if it wasn't for that unpleasant looking rear end. Specifically, the beef I always had with it was twofold:

(1) It wasn't aggressive enough. For instance, if you compare the e46 M3 rear arches and rear quarter panel, it was FAR more aggressive for its time than the e9X is in that same area.

(2) The rear taillight design and shape was and is, simply put, hideous. There is no other way I can frame it.

Of course, we all have our taste and we all bear different expectations. I'm very glad BMW is bringing back the sedan. The market for an M3 sedan is huge, IMO. If the e46 M3 was made as a 4-door, you can bet that's what I would be driving right now.

Sedans are far more practical and there's something about that extra set of doors that makes it look more appealing to the eye. I personally believe the "coupes" should be left to pure sports cars, such as 911, Skyline, etc.

Not to mention, historically, M3 sedans have been more rigid than the coupes and in no way, shape, or form worse performers. For instance, between the e36 M3 coupe and sedan, the sedan is regarded by many as more suitable for competition use. I'm not saying this is going to be the case here, but the typical coupe-performs-better-than-a-sedan consumer view is not as clear cut as it seems. You can have the sedan and still haul ass at the track.

One hell of a tune to turn a I6 into a V6...

...Not to mention, historically, M3 sedans have been more rigid than the coupes ...

BMW E46 Sedan (w/o folding seats) 18,000 Nm/deg
BMW E46 Sedan (w/folding seats) 13,000 Nm/deg
BMW E46 Wagon (w/folding seats) 14,000 Nm/deg
BMW E46 Coupe (w/folding seats) 12,500 Nm/deg
BMW E46 Convertible 10,500 Nm/deg

BMW E90: 22,500 Nm/deg
BMW E92: ?

So the difference in the equivalent e46 between the sedan and coupe was only 500 Nm/deg.
For racing however, you would choose the absolute stiffest chassis you could get, meaning without folding seats.

I wonder how the carbon roof influences the e92 coupe...

I guess no one noticed the new ridiclous raised hood for pedestrian "protection" now required by the EU...

I did not think it was possible for BMW to design an M3 uglier than the e9x, but these pictures proves they achieved that and more!
