Let me know what you think - the dealer can say anything!
Thanks in advance.
Shimmy23 Fri, Dec-16-2011, 07:02:52 PM i don't support auto... lol
irobinson Fri, Dec-16-2011, 08:07:37 PM Hard to find a non auto sedan.
Good for a commute too - sometimes my Golf gets tiring in So Cal traffic!
ATBEcstacy Sat, Dec-17-2011, 07:23:13 AM My younger brother drove an E36 M3 at one point (5 speed) and I've had a friend own an E36 M3 auto -- word of advice: do not get an auto. I'm not 100% sure on this, but the E36 auto transmission in the E36 regular 3-series is the exact same used in the m3 -- thus, the transmissions tend to fail because I'm guessing they can't support the power the M3 puts out. My friends auto M3 transmission had problems as well.
If you get an E36 M3, absolutely get a 5-speed. Just my $.02. My advice would be to search this forum on the auto transmission for the E36 M3 and find out for yourself.
Good luck. Let us know what you're gonna do.
irobinson Sat, Dec-17-2011, 08:14:57 AM This particular one has a Dinan supercharger on it and the ad claims that the auto trans. was upgraded to handle the torque. I have no idea if Dinan upgraded the transmissions when they added the supercharger.
I just wanted to know if anyone that was local could check it out and see if the dealer's claims are accurate (everything works, no oil burned, etc).
Thanks for the advice on the automatic - but it is hard to find 5-speed sedan. It would also be easier to drive in the horrid traffic here.
ATBEcstacy Sun, Dec-18-2011, 12:49:42 AM Ask them for receipts -- guarantee you they don't have any. You will have to take their word on faith. My advice -- don't get it. Don't get an automatic M3 period. The E36 sedan is beautiful - but hold out for that 5 speed. It's not worth the money and headaches it'll give you.
After searching for my M3 for a couple of years, I'm so glad I waited to get the perfect combination of features, and maintenance on it :). It'll be worth it in the end. But, it is your money, and you're free to do what you'd like with it.
If you're still admement about getting it, take it to a shop or BMW of Seattle and get a PPI on it -- it's $350 but you will EASILY make that money in negotiating a price if you're still serious about the car after having it inspected. Good luck.

OK, well thanks for the advice. I can't take it to get a PPI - I live in So. Cal.
I will search the forums for the automatic issues.
