I was under the impression that the chassis is F30, and no official word on whether the coupe will be sharing the same platform or not (thus it could be a completely different number instead of F82 or F32).
Can anyone confirm this?

Maybe the M is F80 and the normal 3er is F30? I'm thinking that F80 = M3 sedan and F82 = M3 coupe. Seems weird tho...

Yeah I really think this is the case. I guess they are separating the M cars out a little more. Doesn't really make that much sense since it uses the F30 chassis. No biggie tho, just strange.

What's wrong with 1 number being coupes, verts and sedans for both M and non-M's?

According to my informations:
F30/F31/F32/F33/F34/F35/F36 are the regular AG-Models (incl.M Performence cars.)
F80/F82/F83/F86 are the special M-GmbH models.
Main reason for the different lable is ... the F8x body is totally different from the F3x body in material terms - the F3x body is made of steel and the F8x body is made of an combination from high-strength steel and carbon composites.

why would it be a 8x... thats skipping a whopping 50 chassis and prototypes.
Also if its the case of different chassis, why wasnt this done for the M5?

Maybe the M3 will finally have a completely different chassis! :shiftdriv
Then the M3 will be a whole different animal and not just a suped up 3er chassis.

They wouldnt do that. Thats expensive, and in a time where BMW is trying to cut costs to increase profit margins it wouldn't happen.
Plus such a car simply wouldnt be an M3 anymore.
