If they weren't so friggin' heavy I'd consider some for my car. daytonaviolet Mon, Jul-12-2004, 06:39:30 AM Played out or not, I really like GT3's. If they weren't so friggin' heavy I'd consider some for my car. here a list of some common wheels many of us have on the forum own. i got the specs from tirerack. the lightest wheel in comparsion is bbs rgr at 20lbs vs. ssr gt3 at 26.9lbs. that's a total weight difference around 28lbs. perhaps some mechanical engineer with some moment of inertia knowledge can calculated what is the 0-60 times is loss from the addtional weight? as for me... im a skinny guy who weighs 140lbs.. .. someone who weighs 168lbs with some bbs rgr would propbably have the same car weight to power ratio as me? too me.. the extra 28lbs has little or no effect...just my $0.02.. So, in the case of the GT3's, you save exactly 7 lbs total over the OEM 19's (29.2 - 26.9 and 27.7 - 26.5). 7 x 1.5 = 105 lbs equivalant weight removed from another part of the car. That's not quite enough for me. The wheels I will be purchasing will weigh in the very low 20's. Wheels that each weigh 7 or 8 lbs less than OEM equates to an equivalant of roughly 45 lbs removed from the car. That's pretty significant to me, but compared to most other M owners, my priorities seem to lean more towards the performance aspect side of things than it does the aesthetic side. here a list of some common wheels many of us have on the forum own. i got the specs from tirerack. the lightest wheel in comparsion is bbs rgr at 20lbs vs. ssr gt3 at 26.9lbs. that's a total weight difference around 28lbs. perhaps some mechanical engineer with some moment of inertia knowledge can calculated what is the 0-60 times is loss from the addtional weight? as for me... im a skinny guy who weighs 140lbs.. .. someone who weighs 168lbs with some bbs rgr would propbably have the same car weight to power ratio as me? too me.. the extra 28lbs has little or no effect...just my $0.02.. I didnt know that. Ive actually learned somthing today... EMAXX Mon, Jul-12-2004, 04:51:54 PM Thanks for that little explanation, dive. I learned something today too. advan24r Mon, Jul-12-2004, 05:00:26 PM Here's mine custom painted Volk Racing Gun Metal (a shade darker) w/a full barrel polish. http://www.m3forum.net/gallery/data/522/10138DSC00250.JPG Divexxtreme Mon, Jul-12-2004, 05:02:35 PM I'm glad that info was helpful to you guys. Also, when considering the weight of tires...know that instead of using 1.5 for calculation like you do for wheels, use 2 (i.e., a 2 lb lighter tire is 2 x 4 x 2 = 16 lbs) since tires are further out from the hub than the wheels. Again, these are approximates...but they are very close to the actual numbers. Thanks for that little explanation, dive. Divexxtreme Mon, Jul-12-2004, 06:45:35 PM I'm about 190...so I need the lighter wheels.:D Emaxx - It's just stuff I've read before. DCLeopard91 Mon, Jul-12-2004, 09:26:22 PM Can we all stop sucking Scott's **** for just one second here? lol. Scott, I appreciate the info bro. Good to see you around. I take it you're back, or are you still in Iraq? As for the weight, I lose to all you guys right now. I weigh 236, so I need to lose a lot AND get some good wheels if I'm gonna be in competition.
