View Full Version : 3M Clear Bra
dskippy888 Wed, Jun-23-2004, 07:06:45 AM Does anyone have the 3M clear bra for their car for protecting against stone chips? My friend was telling me that it conforms completely to the shape of your car so it's practically invisible.
Does anybody have it/have experience with it/ or have some thoughts about it?
momo Wed, Jun-23-2004, 04:07:12 PM yes it's good stuff, LLumar is even better, not as blurry as 3M..
squider Wed, Jun-23-2004, 06:22:26 PM Had it on my last vehicle and now on my M3. Would never buy a car now without it. Practically invisible and protects very well. FYI, have it placed on the lower skirting below the doors and behind the rear wheel. A little expensive but definitely worth the protection in the long run.
wil@m3 Sun, Jul-04-2004, 03:31:58 AM 3M's old film has an "orange peel" effect that was most noticeable on the darker colored vehicles. 3M came out w/ their new film 3 months ago and is much clearer than its previous version. I've used 3M in the past, but switched over to Venture because of its clarity and is backed by a strong nationwide lifetime warranty from bubbling, cracking, and yellowing.
Expect these kits to cost $550-$700, but is definitely worth it for a $50,000 car. We have multiple new car dealership accounts in the San Francisco Bay Area and have seen them mark up these kits up to $1099-$1200. If anyone here is interested with the clearbras for their cars and live further away from the Bay Area, I do have contacts w/ great installers all over California. Please don't hesitate to ask.

Agreed. They did my 04 M3. Even some custom stuff that I wanted.
time12 Sun, Jul-11-2004, 06:35:36 AM I paid $700 to get it on my M, it costed me a whoping $1350 for my 745Li, because of it's size, and I could care less if the Q45 gets chipped.
wil@m3 Tue, Jul-13-2004, 07:46:37 AM When considering the clearbra on your cars, consider a few things:
1) Person or place doing the install (experience)
2) Which type of film do they use
3) Warranty?
Here are some films on the market and my impressions of them since I've been doing this for 5 years:
1)3M 1st Gen - Film is tough, but carries an "orange peel" effect that is most noticeable on darker vehicles - 5 yr warranty
2) 3M 2nd Gen - Film is much clearer and just as durable as its previous version - 5 yr warranty
3) Llumar - Film is fairly new....approximately a yr old. Film is fairly clear, but noticed film had adhesion problems from time to time - lifetime warranty
4) Avery - Very similar to Llumar
5) Venture Tape (Ventureshield): in my opinion, it is by far the clearer film of the bunch. Film is ultra flexible and durable and costs about the same as the rest - Lifetime warranty

Auto Paint Guard Tue, Aug-03-2004, 03:21:52 AM Hello. If you go to www.autoclearguard.com they can sell you the m3 kit and others for 30% off. I believe I paid $250 which covers hood, fender, mirrors, bumper, headlights and foglights. I used him on 2 of my cars so far. The brands that he sells is xpel, with the NEW 3m material. Hope this helps.
