View Full Version : Question about seeling on ebay? I have a issue with a buyer !

So I listed my 5 month old IMAC on ebay with a buy it now price of $1299. Got a offer for $1199 and I took it since the buyer had a good rating (88) with 100% feedback. I printed out the shipping label from UPS but the buyer insisted on FEDEX since he trusts them more. So I canceled the UPS label and went with Fedex. Got the fedex insurance as well and shipped it yesterday. He got it today and claims that the bottom left of the screen has a 1/4" chip/crack (see picture below).

Now I am a 100% sure that this damage was non-existent when I shipped it yesterday. The buyer confirms that the IMAC box was perfectly packed and not damaged at all.

Paypal is still holding the payment in my account for 21 days>>>>Their new dumb policy to protect buyers. Per them, the funds gets released after 21 days to give the buyer time to file a dispute if any.

Here is my dilemma:

1) I don't want to offer any discount cuz I know for a fact that the IMAC was flawless. My conscience is clear.

2) I don't want him to return it cuz I will lose the $120 that I had to spend on ebay fees, paypal fees and shipping and to add to that I wuld be getting back a IMAC with a chipped screen.

Question I have is.....what are my choices? Can the buyer win a dispute on this? It is pretty much his word against mine.

The first picture shows what I shipped to him and the 2nd picture is what he sent to me of the damage. I showed the first picture to give an idea of where the damage is (bottom left of screen). I don't think this interferes with the functionality of the computer. I agree that it would suck for me if I was to get a item like that but when you buy used on ebay you always run that risk to save money.

Has the buyer said what he "wants" due to the alleged damage? Also, can you tell from his pictures if he is actually taking pictures of the exact monitor you sent him? I mean, could he/she just have sent you back a picture of some other iMac with that chipped lower corner? :clueless:

If he files a claim I suppose you'll find out what the deal is... I've never been in that position :goodluck:

it's the same screen. i'm not exacty sure what you can do here. i hate buying/selling with shipping. i end up waiting a lot longer to find a local deal, but at least you eliminate all the issues inherent in dealing with non-local people.

best of luck to you man. what does he want btw? does he want to reverse the deal, rendering you a paypal/ebay fee loss? or does he wish to keep the imac but at a discount?

With Ebay, particularly when the customer uses a CC, it's Caveat venditor not Caveat emptor.

He has not asked for anything yet. So far he is just venting on his luck. He believes me that I sent it in good shape. Since the damage seems internal I told him to take it to Apple since the warranty is valid till Jan 2011.

Please explain.

"seller beware" not "buyer beware" ... sellers definitely take a majority of the risk, especially when a CC is used and a buyer can easily dispute a charge.

You paid for insurance through FedEx. Start the process. Just because the box looks perfect doesn't mean it wasn't dropped off the truck and landed flat chipping the screen.

It's on you - like it or not.

Claim the insurance with FedEx as it's your only option. I hope you gave an accurate insurance amount......

if you have a good buyer you can work it out, but its when you have a jerk who just wants to screw you that you are in trouble.

best of luck
