View Full Version : Used MR.CLEAN spot free car wash on my M3
M3_Dave Mon, May-03-2004, 12:27:23 AM this stuff ROCKS! no joke - after a job well done there were literally 3....i mean 3!!! just 3, spots on my car
its incredible i didnt have to dry anything! not the windows, not the wheels, not any part of the car and the car shines - so nicely!
my dad and i washed 3 cars today in about 30 min and every car dried without a spot - this is a very amazing product, i always used to just go to a car wash, no longer will i (excpet in the damnn winter)
i strongly reccomend this product for use on the M3!
Sirius Mon, May-03-2004, 12:30:31 AM Hmmm. Ill give it a try
nrubenstein Mon, May-03-2004, 12:32:24 AM Personally, I thought it sucked. A Toro 215MPH blower gets the car almost entirely dry and you just touch it up afterwards with a waffle weave microfiber towel afterwards. WAY better.
M3_Dave Mon, May-03-2004, 12:37:09 AM hmm i have not used a blower to dry the car (although ive thought of it) but i think the mr clean stuff is amazing - and it may be just me...but the car seems to shine like its never shined before (exact after a fresh coat of zaino)
M3guyCA Mon, May-03-2004, 12:41:53 AM My M3's first car wash was with Mr.Clean and i love it!

I actually went out and bought the refills today. I think it works pretty well. :peace:
GHOSTRIDER Mon, May-03-2004, 12:50:41 AM I'll have to give it a try.
PremierPOWER Mon, May-03-2004, 01:06:49 AM i also used it today on my new M3 and was very impressed. Nicest thing is my local grocery store 2 miles away sells the refills

FlyinM3 Mon, May-03-2004, 01:32:17 AM does mr. clean have any chemical additives that may harm the paint/clearcoat? weird how it has never been raised before for its performance?!?!?!?! never knew mr. clean had such a good product.
triblk6spd Mon, May-03-2004, 01:35:57 AM not a hijack. anyone tried the nano wax by eagle one yet? i'm going to pic some up this week for an upcoming car show on the 15th.
HerbieC Mon, May-03-2004, 02:23:29 AM has anyone used it after zaino'ing their car? does it strip the zaino?
JTM09 Mon, May-03-2004, 02:38:51 AM according to the booklet, it does not strip wax.
Grimm333 Mon, May-03-2004, 02:56:48 AM I would still prefer handwashing just so I know that every spot was covered and just use a leaf blower anda waffleweave...might take longer but it really cleans EVERY spot
JTM09 Mon, May-03-2004, 02:59:28 AM I still hand wash with the Mr Clean. I dont think just spraying with the soap and rinsing will get it totally clean. the huge benefit of the mr clean is in the rinse process.
M3_Dave Mon, May-03-2004, 03:03:09 AM well your not suppose to just spray the soap and rinse it - your supposed to work the soap in with a sponge...says so in the instructions too
M320Psi Mon, May-03-2004, 03:15:46 AM has anyone used it after zaino'ing their car? does it strip the zaino?
I was worried about that so i used the zaino soap in the mr clean autogun. BIG NO NO... I let my car dry and it was FULL of water spots. I learned that you NEED to use teh mr clean soap that comes with it.
I'm pissed too cuz my dumb ARS poored in a lot of the zaino soap and now i cant use it!

mike,
yes.. you have to use Mr. Clean soap and the Mr. Clean filters. the soap has additives like the ones found in non streaking dishwashing maching soaps. then the filters de-ionizes to avoid spotting.
i did they same thing too.. used some other soap... no no.. :chair:

so it doesnt strip the zaino?
mjf7s Mon, May-03-2004, 01:49:17 PM I also used Mr Clean for the first time last week. My only problem was that I (duh) washed the car when it was still sort of sunny. The soap dried really fast so I was racing around the car to scrub with the microfiber towel before it dried. :chair:
Still it worked great though. I loved that last step with the cool sheeting water... I kept walking around the car doing it, mes-mo-rised... :rockband:
catdog2 Mon, May-03-2004, 06:40:25 PM Yeah, I have been using Mr. Clean from Day 1, wash every weekend and it works just great! No more chamois and scratching the paint during the drying process.
JTM09 Mon, May-03-2004, 10:30:01 PM so it doesnt strip the zaino?
according to their info, no.
M34U2NV Tue, May-04-2004, 04:51:04 AM according to their info, no.
It'll strip it pretty good, I don't know about zaino, but it took my zymol off.
They say it doesnt, but you'll see, itll take a fair amount off, rainX will be somewhat compromised as well. . . thats what happened to me at least, I too was enamoured over it when it was first done, but the car didnt bead up the time after, and I was pretty disapppointed.
As for using a leaf blower to dry your car. . .that's just plain silly; use an absorber. If theres are dirt, dust, sand or anything around the car on the ground, 215mph will blow that up and around or on the car; not good.

Into Eternity Fri, May-07-2004, 01:55:25 AM It's not that it strips the wax, but leaves a film on your car (dry rinse polymer) here in SC it gets so humid that almost everynight your car is basically dripping wet, well you can see all the soapy type film left on the car and exactly how the water ran of the car and dried - NOT A PRETTY THING - In response to the Eagle One Nano Wax, I was impressed and i have used Meguiers for a couple years, and the water beads up good until the Mr. Clean hits it. I still use the Mr. Clean nozzle for the purified water function, definetly cuts down on the chance of water spots because the water is clean.
Jkan2001 Fri, May-07-2004, 07:21:10 AM Does anyone know how the system works? I saw some sort of a filter in the box today not sure what that was for
mazur Thu, May-13-2004, 02:43:42 AM I have it too. Ran out of the Mr. Clean soap, so I just took a large thing of dishwasher soap that we usually use for car wash and just added water to it so that it will pass through the system without clogging. Works just fine.
Be sure to pour the extra water in carefully as to not foam.
SpecialK Thu, May-13-2004, 05:16:05 PM It seems to me that any product that dries like this would contain alcohol to some degree and alcohol normally removes things, in turn, effecting your wax job by breaking it down. Has anyone noticed a decreased finish appearance after they've used it?
M3fun43 Thu, May-13-2004, 05:43:58 PM If you are going to use dishwasher soap make sure you wax your car afterwards. Dishwasher soap will remove all the wax down to the clearcoat.
Lar
also will remove Rainex
daytonaviolet Thu, May-13-2004, 06:53:43 PM i've been using it for about 2mo now and noticed a problem. when the car is clean and normal temp it looks good.. but once it get's dirty and it get's really not and humid.. the car seems to cling on to dust.. and then the dust exposes all the water spots which were invisible before.. since last week i've stopped using mr clean soap but i still use the deionzier filter for the rinse.. this seems to solve the problem. the soap is causing the dust to cling onto my car when it's hot..

Intresitng.. where do you get a de-ionizer from?
daytonaviolet Fri, May-14-2004, 12:50:08 AM Intresitng.. where do you get a de-ionizer from?
:chair: it's part of the Mr. Clean kit.. it's the filter. on the hose attachment there are 3 settings.
1) plain water
2) mr. clean polymer soap (attracts dust when hot and humid)
3) deionized water.
try it out..
MattMan Sun, May-16-2004, 08:36:34 AM I tried it out since it's pretty cheap and so far it looks good. However, it does pickup lint pretty easy. Not sure if the detergent is causing this "sticky" type of coating.

Hmm. I think I will. Thanks for the input.
jcreme Mon, May-24-2004, 03:55:51 PM Does anyone know how the system works? I saw some sort of a filter in the box today not sure what that was for
I don't know how this product works specifically, but it is called an emulsifier - it breaks down the surface tension of water so it sheets off. This is why it appears that it strips the wax. The wax is probably still there - doing it's job of protecting (i don't know for a fact) but the tell-tale beading is disrupted by the emulsifier. Of course, sheeting is only half of the issue, the filter is also required to remove minerals that might remain on your car.
keep it clean!
jcreme Mon, May-24-2004, 06:15:04 PM Ok after all the raving, i went out and bought mr. clean. Looking at the back of the box, it says basically what I said above. Didn't mean to sound like a tool-job that was quoting off the back of a box.
We'll see how well it works. All of the people at O'Reilly's said I was going to be amazed.
aZ_M3 Tue, May-25-2004, 03:57:47 AM Just used Mr.Clean on my car, and it didn't work to well for me. Everything was going alright until I tried to dry it. I spent a good 20min Just trying to dry the front, and it still left wet spots, I read the directions as thoroughly as I could, don't know what im doing wrong...?

ummmmm... isn't the point of this product that you don't have to dry it? :hmm:

Woops, i meant letting it dry itself with the Mr.Clean.

You probably didn't get enough of the soap film polymer crap on your car. And I also noticed the dust clinging thing and went back to the Meguiers car wash (in the Mr. clean kit) and washed my car and the wax was basically gone.
genner21 Fri, May-28-2004, 04:44:41 AM I used Mr. Clean.. NOt too excited about it. I personally didn't think it worked well.
and i believe i did it right. not that hard at all.
