View Full Version : PNW: North I-405 Off-ramp to SR-522 West (Bothell)
daihard Sun, Apr-18-2004, 04:44:55 AM How fast have you guys taken it? It is a long off-ramp that gets off Northbound I-405, snakes to the left to go over the freeway and then merges onto SR-522 (NE Bothell Way). The fastest I've done in my E46 M3 is 75 MPH. DSC won't kick in at that speed, and I do feel that I can push more, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to try it.
Kevin034 Mon, Apr-19-2004, 05:37:40 PM You can go faster, that's all I have to say. I've taken that road many times. It's basicly a double turn. Just make sure you take it like a double turn, double apexing etc. I suggest that you take the first apx a bit early, but watch the turn-outs, make sure you run it a few times w/ DSC on, just to that you don't end up ass-first into the outter concrete barrier.
daihard Mon, Apr-19-2004, 07:02:21 PM Thanks, Kevin. I didn't really think about that place as a double-turn. I'll try it that way this evening.
coug4life Mon, Apr-19-2004, 08:34:29 PM I can't remember how fast I've gone on the 522 exit, but I did do about 70 MPH on the 520 east to I-405 north ramp yesterday, it's a sweeping left that is marked 40 MPH I think. I'm sure I coulda gone faster, but I saw a little bit of rain on the road :)

I've taken that one at 70 MPH as well, but not under the rain. ;) We should be lucky to be able to go that fast on that off-ramp (and the one from SR-520 West to I-405 North too). Those corners are usually clogged with slow turtles.
:devilish:
Kevin034 Mon, Apr-19-2004, 10:20:58 PM The most challenging is the I405 South Bound exit onto 520 East.
It's a uphill slight left turn, followed by a steel downhill (heavy braking) sharp 100 degree turn. Try to clip the spex at top of the hill and stay to the left as much as you can. Once the ramp starts, it's time to start braking and keep to the outside.
Keep on keeping to the outside until you can see the turn exit. Then apex at the light pole immediately to the right. You should have an exit speed of about 70-80mph.

Yeah, that's a fun one. Exiting it at 60 MPH isn't hard at all, even for me. Given the correct line I'm sure I can outdo myself. The toughest part is to find the time of the day when the off-ramp is empty. :(
Kevin034 Tue, Apr-20-2004, 04:09:23 PM 6am and 9pm does it for me, that ramp is always empty. If not, just back off a few car lengths and wait til it clears.

What are you doing there at 6 AM? :eek2: :eek2:

You're not taking the backroads (like NE 124th or NE 85th) to go from Kirkland to Redmond?
Kevin034 Wed, Apr-21-2004, 10:24:23 PM No, I hate backroads. Backroads means lights, lights means stopping the car, and stopping the car is like stabbing myself in the ears.
coug4life Wed, Apr-21-2004, 11:27:25 PM 124th sucks big time  That road is always backed up going in to Redmond, it's almost as bad as 202. Ok, maybe not, 202-W is a damn parking lot in the morning.

I know 124th and SR-202 (or was it even a State Route?) are bad, but have you driven I-405 South in the morning? I once took it to go to work 'cause Bothell Way was all backed up due to an accident. Man, the freeway was already clogged up before 7:00 AM. Where are those jerks all going?
I often come home via 202 when I stop by Bellevue on the way home. It depends upon the time of the day, but the northbound is usually not bad around 4-5 PM.
