View Full Version : 645Ci Introduction
daihard Thu, Apr-08-2004, 08:19:46 AM My friend and I went to the local BMW dealer to take a look at the new 645Ci (Convertible and Coupe). It was supposed to be a real quick stop before the dinner, but we ended up staying there longer to "examine" the cars. The overall styling was actually pretty gorgeous; if only the front mask wasn't Banglized that much!
Here are the pictures we took:

heelsonwheels Thu, Apr-08-2004, 11:13:53 AM dai;
i've seen it several times now, its not bad...i have less problem
w/the looks than some other what seem to be design flaws.
ie...the back seat is amazingly smaller than our M3,
don't like it w/the roof up, should have been a folding hardtop
instead, and the coupe version's sunroof Only Vents.
for 75-80K, i'll pass
Do you notice the similarity in appearance to the new GTO?

Ninja K Thu, Apr-08-2004, 12:56:53 PM oh dear me,
What a car, I love the sound of the engine, the interior is alright on the coupe, and the coupe is better appointed, visually over the convertable, which is just hideous. (I think the colours opted for were to blame for that, some champagne colour over grey interior, yuck!)
daihard Thu, Apr-08-2004, 02:14:58 PM We weren't able to play with the sunroof because the key wasn't there. From the look of the button I would have thought it would slide as well as tilt. I agree, heelsonwheels, a tilt-only sunroof isn't good enough for a $75K-$80K luxury coupe, especially when they took the trouble of making the sunroof very big (it takes up the entire roof width).
EMAXX Thu, Apr-08-2004, 02:29:03 PM I haven't got to see the new 6 in person yet. I've seen many photos of it now, and I'm really liking the car. I saw a pic of the new 6 next to an older 8 series and that was one amazing pic. The only complant I have about the 6 is the rear. I hate that rear. Everything else looks great on the car.
04M3blur Thu, Apr-08-2004, 03:45:03 PM Those pictures don't do it justice. This car does not seem to photograph too well, especially from some angles. I think it actually looks better in person.
EMAXX Thu, Apr-08-2004, 03:49:52 PM All of Bangle's cars seem to look better in person than they do in photos. I don't really understand why though. Can anyone explain why it seems that why?
pasta Thu, Apr-08-2004, 03:55:17 PM Ya we got them in at my dealer now too.
I'll be test driving it hopefully this week and give you my review on it.

I agree!
But the front end is depressing...I can only see those who've been stuck on prozak actually take a liking to the front and have it as a reason for puchasing a car....
Ever heard the motto about dogs looking like their owners? ;)
daihard Thu, Apr-08-2004, 06:50:52 PM Trust me guys. They did not look any better in person. :D
///M3PhrEAk Thu, Apr-08-2004, 07:30:40 PM hey dai in the coupe did it have the option of like panoramic sunroof like the whole roof was glass? i was in the 6 with that on. its really nice. I htink the interior looks exactly like a 5 series maybe? but overall i like the car i just think the front looks like a z4 i.e. the headlights and long hood. other than that id take it.

I actually think that the fron looks great. Comparded here to an older 8, IMO, the 6 looks much better. What do you peeps have to say?

Yes, the Coupe I saw had that kind of sunroof where the whole roof panel was a glass.
///M3PhrEAk Thu, Apr-08-2004, 09:54:09 PM nice pic. my friends dad has a 850Ci think thats the 1 with the v12

Is it an 850Ci or an 850CSi? I've always liked the 8-Series. The 850CSi is the best!
EMAXX Fri, Apr-09-2004, 12:58:38 AM The 850 is a great car. I can't believe that good conditioned ones are still pulling about $40k. That's pretty good for a 10 year old car.
When you compare it to the 6 though, it looks really out dated.

It's all how you look at the new 6-Series. If you like its styling, you may feel the 8-Series to be outdated. For me, the "Acht" still looks very sleek. The 6-Series is more avant-garde than good-looking to me.
illegalprelude Fri, Apr-09-2004, 03:58:54 PM Im with Daihard. I really like the new 6 series. Im not sure why none of the new cars are good in photo's.
Think however you want but I love my Honda Prelude's. I think their design is very very beautiful. Having said that, I have a hard time finding pictures or taking pictures of them that shows their beauty.
I think same goes with the 5,6,7.
i need an M Fri, Apr-09-2004, 04:16:41 PM i like it, i'm just not sure what the hell they were thinking putting that eyebrow there....its just plain dumb looking
Leif E. Bronn Fri, Apr-09-2004, 09:19:11 PM I was suprised when I saw the new 6 in person, it looks much better when you are seeing it in real life. I still don't think it looks the best but I wouldn't mind having one.
Challenger 800 Fri, Apr-09-2004, 09:27:14 PM I did a fairly extensive test drive and review for us a few weeks ago, to lazy to search right now but I love the 3/4 view from the rear. The steering blows donkey d*ck, it has no feeling, more like it just super super over light. It is fast, I was easily dusting a 330i that was trying to take a look at us. It flies from 70-120 in nothing flat and sounds great.

I can take the 3/4 view, too. I just can't stand the front. The headlamps look identical to those of the 7-Series (yuck). If you look inside the kidney grills, there's a huge empty space between the grills and the radiator. Where's the philosophy of BMW to cut the overhang as much as possible to achieve good city manoeuvrability? I have no idea how Bangle was able to get away with that.

I'm gonna expand a little on that...
Whenever I take the 850Ci out, and I park it next to a new bimmer or a new benz it looks really old and dated, and almost bad... but when you see it by itself out on the highway or where it is not next to new cars, it looks truly great!! I love driving it!!
I think that, although the 6 is here to replace the 8, the two share very little in common in terms of look... the only thing they really share is the roundel... so I don't see the point in comparing them... that's just IMO...
One thing I wish they had kept from the 8 is the B-pillar-less treatment... it looks, and feels awe-some when you are driving a coupe w/p B pillars... it just gives the car this cool look when all the windows are down.. oh well, maybe on the next gen car...
[Edit]
oh, and I think the 8 looks hands down better from the rear... have you ever seen an 8 driving in front of you?? I think it's one of BMW's best looking rear ends EVER... it's relatively low, and quite wide... although the tail lights are directly out of the 80s... it still has a lot of style... I'll see if I can find pics... just to compare new 6er and old 8er...
DaBean Sat, Apr-10-2004, 06:23:28 AM Here is a pic from BMW's site of the 645Ci's butt...

Compare that with these pics from an 8-Series...

I stand corrected. The 6-Series headlamps at least look better than those of the 7-Series. :D
EMAXX Sat, Apr-10-2004, 02:56:55 PM I guess it all does depend on how you look at the car. If you like it, that's cool. If you don't, thats cool too. I think it's a great design, and I think the new styling is going to be around for quite a while. At first, when they first came out with the stuff, I hated it, then I saw some of the new cars in person, and they look great.
I read an article in one of my parents Korean newspapers, and they said that songs, designs, anything, that grows on you, you'll like for a very long time. Anything that you just like after seeing once, just like love at first sight, you will like that, but you eventually, you won't "love" it as much. I seem to be finding that true. The new Bangle designs have grown on me, and I really love them now. We'll just have to wait and see some more now.
