Ok, new here, please don't shoot me if I am not finding the right FAQ, post or whatever... just a little advice is all I need.

I'm an ex Porsche guy, looking for a new ride. I found a very nice looking 1997 E36 M3 that looks perfect for double duty as family caravan and autocross fun ride...

The problem is that is has 160,000 miles ... what do I need to ask the dealer before I fork over the cash? They haven't performed a leak down or compression check which worries me. And the last thing that I want to do is trade my reliable ride (an F250 truck) for a super expensive high maintenance nightmare.

What goes wrong on these beasts?

Please check the e36 M3 section. There is alot of info there plus some links and threads on regular maintenance problems.
