View Full Version : Crappy Service at Irvine BMW!! Suggestions?
mpwer Mon, Mar-08-2004, 05:46:01 AM Last week, I took my M3 in for service (burnt out headlight bulb). They changed the burnt out bulb, but when I asked if they would change the other headlight bulb (figuring the other one might go soon and to make sure they were equally bright) the service advisor refused unless I paid parts and labor. Are you kidding me?!! BTW: now I have one new bulb that is markedly brighter than the old one!! My service experience got even better from there. . . .
A couple of months before, I purchased a universal transmitter and had installed by the dealership. I took it home and tried for the life of me, but it it still doesn't work, damnit!!
When I mentioned this to the service advisor, this was his response:
Did you follow the directions on the card? Yes!
Did you program it in front of your garage? Yes!
Did you call the 800 number? Are you freakin' kidding me? How about let us program it for you?! :banghead:
Two days later, I got a call from the dealership asking about my service appointment. They left me a message, asking if everything was fine, and if I was planning to give them anything less than 5's (scale of 1 to 5 for excellent). I'm thinking of somewhere in the neighborhood of a 1.
All I know is that I am doubtful I will be using them once my free maintanence runs out. Has anyone in OC had better experience with Crevier or Sterling? :help:
Hformrace1 Mon, Mar-08-2004, 07:55:50 AM i took my car over to irvine bmw last week also. i brought it in to get some minor things fixed and a oil change. i drop it off there with a full tank of gas and 11262 miles on it. i come back 7 hours later and it has 11271 miles and a quarter of my gas is gone. i went and talked to the service manager and he didnt even have time for me. then i went over to my service counsultant miguel and told him about my problem. he told me 9 miles is about average and he highly doubts that they used a quarter of a tank for the test drive. i then asked him why they even needed to take it on a test drive in the first place. his answer was that the technician probably had a good reason. he then went ahead and told me that the service manager was going to call me back and just wanted to get me out of there. i think if i wasn't 22 he would've treated me a lot better.
im thinking they saw my cab and it has an exhaust and rims and suspension and just wanted to have a little fun with it. why else would they need to test drive it. im definitely never bringing my car back there. they still haven't returned my calls. if anyone one brings there car to irvine bmw i highly recommend that you specifically ask for no test drives and record the mileage.
Hformrace1 Mon, Mar-08-2004, 07:56:52 AM oh yeah i havent tried crevier or sterling but will be going to crevier after this incident.
mpwer Mon, Mar-08-2004, 02:21:07 PM I'm not sure if complaints to the BBB ever produce any results.
I think the best route is complaining to BMWNA.
BTW: How the heck did 7 miles take out a quarter tank of your gas??
JML M3 Mon, Mar-08-2004, 03:16:09 PM Crevier is the best. I can't even begin to explain to you what a joke Irvine BMW service dept is. The best advice I can give you is to call Carl at Crevier explian your problems about Irvine to him and take your car to Crevier always. I wouldn't let Irvine BMW put air in my tires. Crevier is a well run service dept. and their techs and shop foremen are some of the best.
mpwer Mon, Mar-08-2004, 03:53:53 PM Thanks JML M3.
I just got an email from BMWNA (electronic survey regarding my service). I think I will bypass the electronic survey and speak with someone over the telephone.
JML M3 Mon, Mar-08-2004, 04:37:44 PM Don't bother with BMWNA. You are better off talking to the wall.

I bought my '04 Coupe at this dealership Nov'03. The service department is horrible. For my 1500 mi service, I made an appointment 3 weeks in advance. Got to dealership at appointment time and had to wait an hour before I could be checked in. I have not heard any good comments on Irvine BMW. I will go to Sterling BMW from now on.
Hyolee Mon, Mar-08-2004, 05:01:46 PM LOL you guys.... well, not at your problems. lesson learned, don't take it to Irvine BMW for service... they're a bunch of moronic yahoos who don't know sh!t.
for those of you who are considering Sterling... DON'T DO IT. this is yet another posh stealer, only focused on selling cars and not service. i've had terrible terrible terrible experiences with them.
your best bet is Crevier in Santa Ana.
this bites the big one doesn't it.... we hear about this time and time again.
BMW SERVICE STINKS
BMW NORTH AMERICA STINKS
HRE_///M3 Tue, Mar-09-2004, 02:45:08 AM I am sorry you guys have had bad experiences with Irvine BMW. I think they are the best, nicest showroom, good muffins and other pastries, and nice lounge. The service department is very unbalanced. However, owning a M3 does help though. I don't know why they would treat you so unefficiently. I don't even have to make an appointment and if I do, it is either 1 or 2 days in advance and I get everything fixed. They have some stupid consultants and etc there but the best guy is Joe Mateshefiski (sp?). He is a tall white guy, blonde hair with glasses. Always takes care of me and puts me at the top of the list. Free labor and etc. I guess you guys will have to speak to him? He is a great guy, really nice. Also, I think I get such good service and reception because I threw a tantrum after having to take my brand spanking new m3 in after it only had 250 miles on the odometer for 7 problems that the salesman neglected to fix. Once I snapped, the actual manager took care of me and I think Joe is the assitant. Just go back there, its a niceeee facility and grab Joe, he will help you out for sure. Tell them you only want to deal with him and that Harry recommended only him. IF all else fails, just throw a tantrum. Hope that helps.
03m3cab Tue, Mar-09-2004, 03:20:39 AM IMHO, Sterling has the best service department in Orange County.
M-Power? Thu, Mar-11-2004, 12:49:45 AM BMW always have crappy service..... that's y there is Lexus...best services out there....
Kevin034 Thu, Mar-11-2004, 01:03:33 AM Just buy the bulbs and replace them yourself. It's like a 15 minute job.
