View Full Version : WHen is the M4 expected to be out? That is what is planed from the headmanagment in München! gk TURBOCayenne Fri, Mar-05-2004, 05:09:30 PM it makes sense that it will be a 2007 modela year car and not a 2008 car. MattMan Fri, Mar-05-2004, 08:17:42 PM Long live the E46 M3!! :) daihard Fri, Mar-05-2004, 08:23:12 PM it makes sense that it will be a 2007 modela year car and not a 2008 car. Given that 7 years is a typical BMW model cycle, I wouldn't be surprised if the new M4 does not come out until mid-2007 (as MY2008). TURBOCayenne Fri, Mar-05-2004, 08:37:30 PM i think "increasing competition" in the luxury/performance market sector will have it out as a 2007 model sometime in 2006. i mean the engine is only the m5's v10 minus 2 cyclinders so it should be ready. daihard Fri, Mar-05-2004, 09:37:38 PM i think "increasing competition" in the luxury/performance market sector will have it out as a 2007 model sometime in 2006. i mean the engine is only the m5's v10 minus 2 cyclinders so it should be ready. I was hoping that they'd stick with the I-6 configuration and make the body lighter to gain more performance. If the M4 exceeds 3,600 pounds, which I suspect it will, I will be buying another E46 M3 right before it's discontinued or opting for an M2. Or perhaps a 996 GT3? :D daihard Fri, Mar-05-2004, 10:19:59 PM Sounds like a good plan!!!! On the other hand, I wonder how much the E46 M3 would weigh if all those aluminum components were used with it... TURBOCayenne Sat, Mar-06-2004, 02:51:33 PM you also have to remember that not only will it have 67 more hp but probably another 80-100 pd/ft torque which is what the M3 needed all along more torque. I would expect its performance to be pretty close to the new M5 and M6 performance becasue of weight differences. accel times will only improve the the 7speed smgIII. performace should be better than the nextgen corvette and the porsche 997, however the 998 with 8cycl will be another matter entirely. BMW would be smart to release the M4 with all options available in the fall of 2006. coldsteele35 Sat, Mar-06-2004, 03:07:37 PM you also have to remember that not only will it have 67 more hp but probably another 80-100 pd/ft torque which is what the M3 needed all along more torque. BMW would be smart to release the M4 with all options available in the fall of 2006. I don't see this car competing with the new Z06 which is rumored to be 500+ hp. Not flamming just givin my 2 cents. Although with the V8 I think it will be much easier to mod and bam by by Z06. zam Sat, Mar-06-2004, 05:42:29 PM I dunno why people compare the C5 and M3. Not really comparable IMO. Was anyone here cross shoping the Vette and Bimmer? Now are you sure about an 8 cyl in the 911? You say 998 as in the 2010 version? I'm a bit confused. Albeit, a v8 911 just isn't right. Now I do like the spy shots of the 997 with retro-round headlights. daihard Sat, Mar-06-2004, 05:59:37 PM I sometimes just have to scratch my hair and wonder why people always want horsepower and torque more than anything? There are folks who aren't happy with 262 lb-of torque in the current M3, but if it does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, who am I to complain? To me, the torque curve is more important than the max torque. The S54 motor gets 80 percent of its peak torque at as low as 2,000 RPM. As a result, it's unbelievably easy to drive in cities yet delivers excellent performance noce revved up. And I cannot repeat this enough... I can't speak for others, but I for one won't be able to handle 500 horsepower properly. I'm not that good of a driver. Heck, I've been practicing every day to be able to handle 333 bhp, and I still have a long way to go. Lastly... the new M5 is rumoured to do 0-62 in "well under 5 seconds." Hmmm... it's got a 500 bhp V-10 and does 0-62 in 4.5-4.6 seconds. The E46 M3's got a 333 bhp I-6 and does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. A huge improvement, huh?
