I just put down my $500 for an M3. Expected delivery is in May 2002. I was originally going to get a 330i but I couldn't resist the M3. Not that I'm a real racer or anything, but how does the M3 compare to mustangs? I don't mean in luxury cuz its obvious who wins, but in terms of speed? Any advice or words of encouragement would help too- I'm 22 and funding this M3 by myself so it would help me feel less guilty! =)

sup "36th-chamber", you made an excellent choice, i gurantee you that this car is worth the wait, this is my opinion,"mustangs are no match for this machine" not even a camaro SS can hang with this car. i also get tempted to race corvettes, but i get stopped because my girlfriend tells me not too. the mustang cobra r and corvette are head to head with the m3. congrats man on your purchase.

How does it compare to mustangs huh?? Well, my friend has a 2000 s281 Saleen Mustang which i raced during my break in period. I kinda felt bad, but you gotta runn em a bit so the engine doesnt become "lazy". N e way, with my tight engine, DSC off, and sport mode on, i spun the wheels and fell behind (hey, it was the first time i tried sport mode...give me a break) by about just over a car length. But, by the end of third gear i was ahead. And another thing, i have a convertible, so its slower than the coupe.
The M3 pulls harder than stangs do, has a nicer sounding engine and gets more looks. Definately a better performer than the American muscle cars (xcept Z06's).

They are a world apart. Then again, they should be with the M3 costing twice as much as a Mustang (except for the Cobra's, which are 2/3rd the cost). It's like comparing a Corvette with a Mustang. There is no contest.
Kudos to you for being 22 and funding an M3 acquisition. Not easy to do, and you may be one of the youngest M3 buyers out there (besides the punk kids who get their millionaire daddys to buy one for them). I'm 28 and have one on order with an expected delivery of Sept. '02. A reward to myself after graduating with an MBA this year. http://m3forum.com/ubb/smile.gif I always remembered that college poster that said: "Remember this simple formula: MBA = BMW" Always loved that.
