So how many of you have, or plan to, take your M3 to a track (road course) and ring it out?

A couple of weeks one of the local BMW clubs was at the track, and the 2001/2002 M3 Coupe's looked really good driving around the track. TomDoherty Mon, Nov-05-2001, 09:47:00 PM Just participated this past weekend with the Hoosier BMW Car Club Chapter at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The car performed great. It accelerated very well and a Corvette C5 and a Porche Carrera S owners their thought the M3 was faster down the straights. I was hitting at one point 135 mph at the end of the straight. The highlight of the weekend was getting a point by pass by the Porsche and it was on Racing Slicks. I must say that my instructor was very good and helped me learn the track and drive it pretty quick during the weekend. The one thing I will do next time is fit the car with Track Tires. I really roached the Michelin Pilot Sports...and they are on the Euro 19" wheels...ouch that hurts. muf Mon, Nov-05-2001, 09:50:00 PM Sounds great guys. Id love to take mine on a track but there isnt really any good ones close to where I live. Scott smgm3 Mon, Nov-05-2001, 09:59:00 PM Cool. Good to hear you guys are really "using" the car, not just driving it as a prestige symbol. http://m3forum.com/ubb/cool.gif Fortunately I have Summit Point about 70 miles from me, so it's REALLY easy to run track days there. When I get the M3 it's going to be a whole new driving experience. Right now I drive a modified Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS. It handles GREAT in the corners with the all-wheel drive. Basically, just turn-in, and punch it, and the car just drifts nicely through the corner. I know I won't be able to do that with the M3 with it's rear wheel drive, and twice the power. I KNOW it will be fun though! http://m3forum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif MattUK Wed, Nov-07-2001, 11:47:00 AM I fancy going over to Munich for their driver training... |
