beebo100 Tue, Feb-26-2008, 09:22:02 PM just got back from the test drive. first of all, i couldn't take dsc off. the button didn't work(don't ask me how i tested that theory :) ) the power button and the edc button lite up when you pressed them, but i didn't feel a difference before and after. also u couldnt get to the m dynamic mode screen on the idrive. so i must say they somehow disabled user inputs to control these functions and gave you the safe settings on everything.
so that being said, would i buy one? nope.
just wasn't exciting enough for me. too docile, big, safe. great for a daily driver, but if you are looking for something that will make your heart skip a beat, i didn't feel that at all.
speakers were very impressive. cabin very roomy and comfortable. steering wheel felt great too.

beebo100 Wed, Feb-27-2008, 01:00:34 AM the bmw ultimate drive is going across the country. they are currently in florida. they will be in daytona next. look it up on the bmw usa website. u might catch one by u.
ToddMcF2002 Wed, Feb-27-2008, 01:03:25 AM Just curious about context: how did it compare to the e46?
beebo100 Wed, Feb-27-2008, 01:10:26 AM i drove a dinan tune and exhaust e46 m3. it felt sportier. the e92 felt wider, but that gave it a more planted feeling. im guessing on a high speed sweeper, the e92 would feel better.
BMWridin89 Wed, Feb-27-2008, 02:31:20 AM Thats nice you got to drive it but I agree I think BMW focused to much on the luxury part of the car.

:deadhorse:
Most people say it doesn't feel as raw or exciting as the e46. But numbers vs numbers it is faster. Looks is a whole different story.

Did I ask you? I asked the guy who drove one. Glad you've read up on the car.
lightspeed Wed, Feb-27-2008, 03:18:51 AM I haven't test driven the E92 M3 yet (should have to do so), but that was my concern too... Pressing the POWER button on the E46 (especially after installing a new fuel filter), the car is quite raw and exciting, very touchy gas pedal, and I should admit I like that (quick response of the gas pedal). I'd like to know if the E92 would feel the same way too. Too bad you couldn't manipulate the M Drive.
GarryF Wed, Feb-27-2008, 02:16:32 PM You should have spotted a big difference in throttle response changing modes, press the throttle in slightly then while the car is accelerating press the M button on the steering wheel or down at your side and it'll kick you in the back.
One of the things i really like about the M3 is that it is two cars in one, docile and easy for the wife  to drive with all settings on safe yet really exciting when you press the M button with all settings at the max, if you didn't get to try that you kinda missed the best bit.
ToddMcF2002 Wed, Feb-27-2008, 02:23:36 PM I don't want to rely on the goofy throttle remap to enjoy the car. Its a gimmick.
greggb Wed, Feb-27-2008, 02:32:08 PM 8,400 RPM in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.. Tell us how it feels..

well that's the problem. They made it so you can't change the driving dynamics.

I think the problem is with an out and out sports car you want a really sharp throttle response, yet when your in traffic in town etc that can get quite tiring so they are trying to give you a car that does both well, on my test drive I thought they've done it quite well for people using it as a daily driver.

Probably, I think at the euro launch in spain DSC couldn't be turned off as well so it's quite possible they can set the car to softest settings so you couldn't change it, you should try getting a test drive on a car where you can change the settings :shiftdriv
